The Persian bakery Haleh Pastry opened last year in downtown Walnut Creek but everytime I walk by lately they have been closed. I see a Conditional Pass sign in the window from the health department. Has anyone seen them open?
15 A Vivian Dr, Pleasant Hill
I recently found out about an art studio which opened late last year in Pleasant Hill called i heart art. They offer classes for kids (drawing, drama), teens (graffiti arts, henna, and more) and adults (graffiti arts, fused glass, weaving, mala and more). Check out their party and events page here, summer camps here, and open studio info here ($5 off if you walk or bike to the studio). Looks fun, especially the workshops for fused glass and graffiti!
From their website:
Co-founders Abby and Amy are moms, artists and teachers. While working together at a private school for many years, they have collaborated on building their vision for an art studio for children. They have built a network of parents over the years that have grown to love their work with children and have earned tremendous respect for their artistic knowledge and skill in developing young minds.

9:30am – 12:00pm | $40Tickets available now to enjoy a catered brunch among the owls, hawks and opossums at Lindsay Wildlife Experience, followed by an exclusive presentation: Antarctic Adventures with Capt. Scott Shackleton on May 15.
Scott Shackleton is a cousin of Sir Ernest Shackleton, who is best known for his horrific journey leading the stranded crew of his ship, the Endurance, to safety after a failed attempt to cross Antarctica in 1914. The journey has become the stuff of legend. Shackleton led his men in lifeboats across ice-clogged waters to South Georgia Island, where they then scaled the island’s snow-capped mountains to reach safety.
Captain Scott Shackleton, an assistant dean at UC Berkeley, will discuss the harrowing journey and how it inspired him to go on “Operation Deep Freeze,” his 2010 journey to the South Pole. Come see this amazing presentation and enjoy a delicious brunch! All money raised goes to the Lindsay Wildlife Alliance, which funds programs at Lindsay Wildlife.

A new yoga studio called Atma Yoga has opened in Orinda above the A.L.M.A. music school. Check out their schedule here. See what types of yoga are offered here.
From their website:
We believe yoga, being the union of heart, mind, and body is more than just a type of physical exercise. The name of our studio is a Sanskrit word (Ātma) which means one’s soul, spirit, or truest self. It is the essence of who we are internally and who we are seeking to become. We believe this best describes the philosophy of our practice and our mission.

In March we learned that Pizza My Heart would be opening sometime in April in Plaza Escuela (where Project Pie used to be) in downtown Walnut Creek and they have now opened. Curiously, a video on their Facebook page shows a spinning booth. Check that out here and their menu here.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Thanks to a reader for pointing out that Kit and Ace is closing all US locations. Sure enough, the Broadway Plaza Kit and Ace, which only opened at the end of 2015, is closed. That sure was fast. Usually you see sales for some time to get rid of inventory but the inside looked like a fully stocked store!
