Willows Shopping Center, Concord
The Concord Planning Commission is holding a public hearing this evening which will consider an application for Massage Envy to open where Rick’s Rather Rich Ice Cream (and the spot next door) used to be in the Willows Shopping Center in Concord. I believe this is the first salon-type service to open at the Willows. Has there been anything like this previously?

$12Still playing the festival circuit (Berlin, Seattle, Mill Valley & more …), Mountain Shadow has snagged this touching film from New Zealand about what it means to be family and ‘at home.’ After surviving a nasty car accident, Tia has nowhere to go. Estranged from her mother and rejected by her father, she attempts to befriend the strangers involved in the accident. Caught between the innocence of youth and the immaturity of young adulthood, this is a coming-of-age story that is both authentic and poignant.

The very first Mom’s Touch chick and burger franchise restaurant from South Korea (with over 1000 restaurants) opened yesterday near Todos Santos Plaza in Concord where Wild Ox used to be. There is a new patio outside and the inside looks very nice. Prices are reasonable and with New Orleans/Korean style seasoning this is definitely something I want to try! Check out their menu here.

The Lamorinda winery Meadow View Winery is opening a tasting room inside part of the old “Hen House” where the vintage furniture shop Farmyard Darlings currently is in Lafayette. Farmyard Darlings will remain at this location and the tasting room is planning to be open on Fridays and Saturdays beginning late afternoon starting sometime in January. In addition to tastings, wine bottles will be available for purchase.
From their website:
Meadow View Winery is a Lamorinda winery focused on making the best wine possible from Lamorinda grapes by thoughtfully controlling practices from the vine to the bottle. We work closely with local growers in the new Lamorinda AVA who are also interested in producing top quality wine to obtain the best possible fruit and then carefully ferment, cellar and bottle to obtain the optimum expression of Lamorinda terrior. In 2016 we are working with five Lamorinda vinyards. Above, winemaker Bill English is with Doug Spear and Isabelle Ord (Isabelle’s Vineyard), our largest grower.
