The celebration will showcase the very best of Mexican and Latin American cultures with a diverse array of Mexican and Latino foods, music, dance and artistry for the entire family to enjoy. Attendees will enjoy rich cultural experiences and activities focused on retaining cultural traditions in its community.

Talented artists will perform throughout the day featuring traditional Mexican songs as well as salsa, Latin Jazz, Latin Rock, Pop, and other Latin rhythms.

Last year, over 65 vendors participated in providing their delicious, diverse foods, showcasing their arts and crafts and empowering the multi-cultural community through greater awareness of their products and services.

Bonjour Bakery & Cafe Closes at Park & Shop in Concord

Park & Shop, Concord

Bonjour Bakery & Cafe, which opened a few years ago in the Park & Shop shopping center in Concord and served Japanese/Korean-style baked goods, has closed. A sign in the windows points to a new bakery opening called Casa del Affajor. According to this Wikipedia article:

An alfajor is a traditional confection found in Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, El Salvador, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Spain, Paraguay, Venezuela, Southern Brazil, and the Philippines. The archetypal alfajor entered Iberia during the period of al-Andalus. It is produced in the form of a small cylinder and is sold either individually or in boxes containing several pieces.

Towne Center Condominiums Completed in Lafayette

For the last few years we’ve been following the progress of the Towne Center condominiums in downtown Lafayette next to the BART station and as you can see in the above photo it looks basically finished. According to the website it’s priced from $949,000 – $1,188,252. Check out the nine floor plans here.

Robert Dekkers new ballet, Red Shoes, is an imaginative interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless fairy tale. Set to the thrilling score by Academy Award nominated composer Philip Glass, the ballet explores the birth, evolution, and ultimate demise of the ego. Red Shoes will feature costumes designed by celebrity fashion designer, Cassidy Haley, who has created for P!nk and Fergie to name a few.

Sig’s Little Kitchen “A Taste of Filipino Cuisine” Soft Opens in Danville

Thanks to a reader for sending word… The Filipino restaurant Sig’s Little Kitchen soft opened at the Crossroads of Danville shopping center on San Ramon Valley Blvd. Check out the menu in the photo below. I look forward to trying this place out!

Traditional Filipino dishes served either through rice bowls, fresh salads, or wraps. We will also have a catering tray menu for parties.

Trinity Center for the Homeless Relocates in Downtown Walnut Creek

Late last year we learned that an adult day care center would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek where Baja Fresh used to be, next to the Habit Burger Grill. It turns out it’s not an adult day care center at all but rather the Trinity Center for the homeless and working poor, which relocated a few blocks away. Note that they are closed on weekends.

Food, breakfast & hot lunch

Showers & Laundry

Clothing

Mail and Telephone Access

Referral Services

Help with benefit applications

Community

Trinity Center serves people who are homeless and those experiencing poverty. The Center is an opportunity for community and a safe place off the street.
