Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
After over 20 years in business in Walnut Creek, Edwards Everything Travel is closing in Broadway Plaza by the end of January. In addition to their Walnut Creek location, their San Francisco and San Mateo locations will be closing as well, leaving only their Palo Alto location open. This looks like another case of not being able to compete with online stores. Check out their online selection here.

This week we learned that two long term restaurants closed or will be closing in downtown Walnut Creek, Pomegranate and Le Cheval. I’ve had quite a few meals at both these spots, including family events, getting together with friends etc. Although I hadn’t been there recently, I will miss the delicious gyros at Pomegranate in particular. Which restaurant that has closed do you miss the most?

1389 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
The Greek restaurant Pomegranate, which had been closed for weeks due to “staff training”, has finally closed, replaced with a “FOR LEASE” sign. It looks like the new owners couldn’t make it work unfortunately as I enjoyed many meals here. At least the pomegranate tree remains in front, for now.

1291 Parkside Dr, Walnut Creek
Thanks to a reader for sending word that a new dim sum restaurant, appropriate called Creek House Dim Sum Restaurant, opened recently in Walnut Creek next to Kinder’s on Parkside Dr. Check out their menu here. I believe this is the only dim sum restaurant in Walnut Creek, or are there others?

La Fiesta Square, Lafayette
Last November we learned that The Shade Store would be replacing the ice cream shop Smitten in La Fiesta Square with a showroom and their bold signage is now up. Check out their website here where you can shop online for shades, blinds and drapery. As an ice cream fan where am I going to go when I’m in Lafayette?
