Park Plaza Shops, Lafayette
Joe & the Juice opened recently at the Park Plaza Shops in Lafayette where Squirrel’s Coffee Shop used to be. In addition to drinks they also offer sandwiches and yogurt. Check out their menu here. I heard they tried to be edgy so wasn’t surprised that all three employees bore plenty of tattoos. I asked one employee whether tattoos were required to work there and he was speechless for a moment before replying that they weren’t. Out of curiosity I’ll have to drop by another time to see if there are tattoo-less employees.

In the spring we learned that the Brazilian steakhouse Galpao Gaucho would be coming to downtown Walnut Creek where Momo’s used to be and they’re now open. The inside looks great and they kept the Big Ass Fan! Check out their Walnut Creek menu here.
From their website:
Our menu is inspired by the Gaucho culture and the authentic dining tradition of the Brazilian cowboy – grilled meats and fresh salads. With 17 different cuts of meats, ranging from beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and fish, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, sweet beets, asparagus, imported cheeses, and cured meats are only some of almost 40 items that our gourmet salad bar offers.

I can’t believe I’m writing this but Corners Tavern is closing in downtown Walnut Creek with their last day being Wednesday, July 10th. It was one of the first restaurants I previewed on this blog over seven years ago and enjoyed many meals here with my family over the years. Sad to see them go! 😢

Newell Promenade, Walnut Creek
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Vietnamese restaurant Pho Saigon closed recently at Newell Promenade in downtown Walnut Creek. Thanks to a reader for sending word about this. I imagine the remodeling going on there hasn’t helped, right?

Encina Grande, Walnut Creek
Rounding out a brutal week in Walnut Creek restaurant closings, Evie’s Hamburgers closed recently at the Encina Grande shopping center in Walnut Creek. This comes after Cinco de Mayo, Stanford’s, Tender Greens, and Andy Sushi, not to mention the jazz club Impulse Room closing, all with the last week or so. A new restaurant called Taqueria Magico is planning on opening in the former Evie’s spot in the beginning of August.
