1523 Giammona Dr, Walnut Creek
San Francisco-based Sweet Maple Restaurant, “serving a classic American breakfast and brunch menu with a touch of Asian influence”, is coming to downtown Walnut Creek where Tozai Izakaya used to be. Check out their San Francisco menu here.

Today, the James Bond film No Time to Die is being released and I’d really like to see it in on a giant screen in a movie theater. But I’d rather not sit through an entire movie masked. Nor do I want to catch Covid either. Is it worth the risk and inconvenience or is it better to wait until it comes out online and watch it at home?

In May, we learned that San Francisco-based Marine Layer would be coming to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and they have now opened. Check out their online selection here and find out more about their story here. Hopefully the storefront signage and exterior walls will be completed soon.

Mark your calendars as the bakery and matcha café, Third Culture, makers of the Mochi Muffin, plans to open on Saturday, October 16th at Main Street Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. Check out their menu here.


Contra Costa now requires vaccination proof before dining indoors. When I briefly showed my card at one restaurant and they accepted without asking for ID, I wonder whether it will make much of a difference. After all, how can you make restaurant staff enforce this rule seriously? Is that a reasonable request or is this just for show? If you have dined indoors recently, how closely did they check your vaccination status? Do you approve of dining vaccination requirements?
