Impulse Room, a new jazz club that we learned would be coming to downtown Walnut Creek is finally getting ready to open officially next Wednesday on April 26th (Groove Dragon) and is hosting a couple of Facebook-invite parties this Thursday (Sophisticated Ladies ) and Friday (Negative Press Project). If interested in attending one of these events go to their Facebook page here and reply to their post from April 15th with the details.
The inside features a wine and beer bar towards the front with a piano and performance area on the other side. On Dance Saturdays the floor will be open for dancing to jazz, as well as “upbeat blues, Swing, and modern jazz”. Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays will feature live jazz inspired music. There is a complimentary buffet from 5:30 to 7pm. To find out all the details including the dress code and cover charge etc. check out their About page here.
This looks like it’s going to be a great addition to the downtown Walnut Creek nightlife scene. I look forward to listening to live jazz music here soon! Don’t forget to check out more photos after the jump.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
The writing has been on the wall for a while now that Apple would be relocating from their location next to Tiffany in downtown Walnut Creek to Broadway Plaza ever since we learned of a new building with glass walls that was proposed last year where California Pizza Kitchen, Starbucks, Tesla and Yogasmoga used to be. The Broadway Plaza directory now lists the Apple Store as a new addition so it’s official. Apple is relocating to Broadway Plaza in a brand new building! With Amazon opening in the fall I’m glad to see some tech focused stores opening here.
Note, you can actually see the current Apple store in the background of the above photo so they won’t be moving far.

From the owners of the food truck Tonli Dumpling House, a new restaurant called Tonli Kitchen is planning on opening right across from the Pleasant Hill BART station on the border of Walnut Creek at the Avalon apartment complex. To get an idea of what they offer check out the Tonli Dumpling menu here. Follow them on Twitter here.
From the Roaming Hunger website:
Tonli Dumpling brings you classic Japanese street food. Authentic Japanese flavor thrives in dumplings, gyoza, ramen and Japanese curry. You’ll be saying Arigatō after you try Tonli Dumpling!

Although not as big as the Women’s March from earlier this year, there was plenty of honking and signs at the four corners of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek this past Saturday as people participating in the Tax March demanded President Trump release his tax returns. Check out more photos of the march after the jump.

Last September we learned that Old Navy would be coming to Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and they have now opened across from GAP. I believe this is the first time Old Navy has opened anywhere in Walnut Creek.

11:00am | FreeThe Tax March is a movement gaining momentum around the country to demand transparency and fairness from our Commander-in-Chief. Throughout his campaign, Donald Trump told the American people he would release his tax returns. Despite intense public pressure, President Trump has not yet done so – breaking with 40 years of precedent in the process. His administration’s excuse? “People don’t care.”
We do care. Without seeing his tax returns, we have no idea what he’s hiding – shady business deals? Financial ties to foreign countries? Conflicts of interest? – or who his policies are really benefitting.
On April 15, we’re marching on Washington and in communities across the country to send a clear message to Donald Trump: You work for us, and we demand answers.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that Lawrence’s Walnut Creek Meat Company has closed after over 30 years in business in Alamo and over 125 years when they were located in downtown Walnut Creek. You can still see the signage on the side of the building where the Japanese restaurant Sasa is now.
