A new Japanese restaurant called Tozai Izakaya from the owners of the popular spot Ramen Hiroshi is coming to downtown Walnut Creek where Hamachi (later Fortress) used to be. Check out the Ramen Hiroshi menu here and stay tuned for updates… As a fan of their ramen I look forward to checking this place out!
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
The brick facade is now up at the soon-to-be-opening Amazon Books shop in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. They are still looking for seasonal associates here, which will also feature a cafe. I can’t wait to check this place out, although considering their recent purchase of Whole Foods, I do wonder about the increasing power they have in the marketplace and how it will affect long-term prices.

11:00am – 5:00pm | FreeWharf Fest, a free Fisherman’s Wharf festival, returns to San Francisco’s iconic neighborhood for the 5th year. The Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District is throwing the ultimate festival to celebrate San Francisco’s historic waterfront district and invite Bay Area locals to visit the district after the tourist season has ended and before San Francisco’s fabulous fall climate fades away. This year’s festival will include a chowder cook-off competition, exhibitors, and fun family activities and entertainment.
While we wait for Amazon Books to open in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek check out these Amazon lockers in the Lafayette Whole Foods. Are these in all Whole Foods locations? Looks super convenient.
Spotted in Danville. “I’ll take an ‘A’ Vanna!” 🙂

Although I’m settled down now sometimes I wonder what it would be like to move somewhere new. If you had the opportunity to relocate where would you choose to live? Would you move somewhere more urban or rural? Another Bay Area city? Leave California completely? Years ago, before I moved here I considered Portland. I wonder what my life would be like had I moved there instead.

Avalon, Walnut Creek
Last spring we learned about a new bar called Hops & Scotch coming to the Avalon apartment complex across from the Pleasant Hill BART station in Walnut Creek and according to their website they are planning to open sometime this fall. Watch for updates on their Instagram page here. Note that this is not related to the upscale diner Hopscotch in Oakland.
I called it back in August when we learned that Ikoi Sushi would be opening in this spot in downtown Walnut Creek. SUSHI it is. To see the original Rinehart’s jewelry clock followed by its replacement, the GELATO clock, click here. I hope this will turn into a more tasteful SUSHI font…
