Citrus Marketplace, Walnut Creek
Thanks to those who emailed (and sent the above photo); Denica’s, which opened about seven years ago, recently closed at Citrus Marketplace in Walnut Creek. Their other three locations are temporarily closed due to the pandemic. Check for updates on their website here.

Plaza Escuela, Walnut Creek
I wonder if Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in downtown Walnut Creek updates their business casual proper attire rules on an ongoing basis? I imagine every now and then someone comes in wearing something not on the list; the manager rolls their eyes and has a new sign printed with additional attire not to be worn.

1548 Bonanza St, Walnut Creek
I want to give a shout-out to Broderick in downtown Walnut Creek for having a “clean & sanitized” pens bucket in addition to a “used pens” bucket. Not to mention the Purell bottle nearby. I don’t feel that comfortable ordering takeout but would definitely order from Broderick next time I’m in the mood for takeout!
On a side note, over the weekend I phoned in a pizza order for pickup. The person at the counter wasn’t wearing a mask and gave me a pen without mentioning if it had been sanitized. There was no concern about social distancing and I got the impression he couldn’t care less about getting coronavirus or transmitting it to others. Not setting the best example for someone manning the takeout section of a restaurant.

405 Railroad Ave, Danville
Thanks to everyone who sent word that Homegrown Sustainable Sandwiches, which opened a few years ago, closed recently in Danville. A new restaurant called Hopstone Cafe is supposed to open here shortly, hopefully they’ll offer take-out and delivery.

110 Hartz Ave, Danville
Thanks to a reader for sending word that Gotta Eatta Pita, which opened over six years ago in Danville, has closed. Their Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton and San Jose locations are planning to reopen on April 8th. Check out their menu here.

2nd Ave. & N. Main St, Walnut Creek
According to this NBC Bay Area article, the Walnut Creek city council rejected plans for Amy’s Drive Thru at 2nd Ave. & N. Main St in Walnut Creek where In-N-Out Burger was supposed to be. Apparently, traffic would be a problem especially with the drive thru service.

Yesterday, when I saw Salt & Straw, one of my favorite ice cream spots, listed on the City Center Bishop Ranch website directory, I started unconsciously drooling thinking about which flavor I was going to get on my cone. But alas, what City Center Bishop Ranch giveth, City Center Bishop Ranch taketh away, and now Salt & Straw no longer appears on their directory.
I’m not sure whether they prematurely added it to the directory, like Broadway Plaza did way back in 2017 when I first spotted Apple listed on their directory (and removed shortly after), or the deal fell through, but I’m hoping they really will be coming! 🍦🍦🍦

City Center Bishop Ranch, San Ramon
Of all the wonderful ice cream parlors there in the Bay Area, Portland-based Salt & Straw tops the list for me with its decadent, unique flavors. I’ve enjoyed cones at their Portland and Hayes Valley location in San Francisco and am really excited to learn they’ll be opening their first East Bay location at City Center Bishop Ranch in San Ramon. Check out the current San Francisco menu here and read about their story here. If you’ve never tried a Salt & Straw cone before you definitely should check this place out when they open and if you just can’t wait check out one of their other Bay Area locations here.
