Over the weekend as I was getting ready to stroll down Hartz Ave. in Danville something caught my eye. When I looked up I couldn’t believe what I was seeing; a guy riding a vintage bicycle turning the corner as if it were nothing. Amazing!

Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center
Fat Maddie’s Barrelhouse & Bistro is coming to the Downtown Pleasant Hill shopping center where they will occupy a prime spot at the clocktower where the clothing store Atlas & Athena and Pasta Pomodoro used to be. The owner is the same one as Fat Maddie’s Grille in San Ramon. Check out their menu here. I look forward to trying this place out!
From the Fat Maddie’s Grille website:
Named for our family’s favorite goat, FAT MADDIE’S rustic menu incorporates local, sustainable, and organic ingredients. The family is committed to serving only free-range and antibiotic free chicken as well as hormone and antibiotic free beef. FAT MADDIE’S eggs come from chickens on the family’s personal working farm and food waste is recycled to pigs on a neighboring ranch. As for the goat cheese, let’s just say that Maddie has her sources.

The restaurant Homegrown Sustainable Sandwiches that we learned last year would be opening in Danville is opening tomorrow, February 7th where La Boulange Cafe used to be. They will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner featuring sandwiches, salads, grain bowls and soups. Check out their menu here. Interestingly, they have a 2 acre organic farm in Discovery Bay to provide some of the seasonal produce which sounds like a great idea, can’t wait to try this place out!
From a PR:
Homegrown Sprouting Farms – Discovery Bay will be a two acre, certified organic farm providing hyper local and seasonal produce for all the soups, salads, bowls and sandwiches in stores, making Homegrown truly a farm to sandwich endeavor. In Seattle, Homegrown also runs a farm located 30 minutes away from its flagship location that provides seasonal produce for its 10 other Washington State locations; it also serves as an educational tool for employees to find out where their food actually comes from.
Homegrown is excited to have partnered with First Generation Farmers (FGF) to get their farm started. FGF is a non-profit organization dedicated to education about farming and sustainable food and agriculture in the Bay Area.
1387 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
The clothing store Atlas & Athena, which we learned last month would be relocating within downtown Walnut Creek has now reopened. For those who remember their original spot on N. Main St, this new location is almost directly across the street. Their Pleasant Hill location has also closed so this is now the only Atlas & Athena location.
Originally featuring only men’s clothing, Atlas & Athena now also offers a women’s section, hence the Athena addition to their name. Check out their website here and check out the photos after the jump. There are plenty of cool items on display so it’s definitely worth a drop-in if you’re in the area.
Plenty more photos the inside after the jump…

Burger King has closed in the Rheem Valley shopping center in Moraga. According to a Design Review Board notice in the window it may be converted to a Starbucks coffee shop with a new outdoor seating area.
Yesterday we saw how the rain has been helping make the Lamorinda trail waterfall in Moraga flow nicely. I pass this waterfall all the time when running so it’s become a common scene for me. Another favorite spot for me is Lamorinda’s greatest tree swing in Lafayette Community Park.
