The shapewear store KIMMI COUTURE opened recently in Danville. Check out their online selection here.
From their website:
The online store began with one of a kind bathing suits handmade by Mrs CEO K but it quickly expanded into women’s shapewear. With Kimmi being from Colombia, she felt it was an organic transition to share her “Secret to a Tiny Waist” with her customers.
2800 Larkey Ln, Walnut Creek
Over the weekend I dropped by Larkey Market in Walnut Creek to check out what was going on since they got a new owner. There had been some questions about their homemade sandwiches disappearing and I found out that a new deli station is in the works and once it’s ready they’ll be back to offering handmade sandwiches as well as an expanded menu including a special family chicken salad recipe, breakfast items and more specialty deli items. Online ordering will be available as well as a new Larkey Market coffee, including a proprietary cold brew. In addition to food and drink updates they want to update the aesthetics so it will feel more like a neighborhood market and deli with more tables and less like a convenience store. Check for updates on their Instagram page here.

Lyric, Walnut Creek
In April we learned that Blaze Pizza would be coming to The Lyric in downtown Walnut Creek but all the coming soon signs have been removed and one reader emailed that they were, “balled up in a trash can in the corner.” However, the website still has a location listed. Anyone know what’s going on? The listed address is, “1507 Locust St.” so I wonder if they’re actually opening next door in the soon-to-be-built new building? Check out their menu here.
Plaza Escuela, Walnut Creek
The Japanese clothing store Uniqlo, which opened a little over five years ago at Plaza Escuela in downtown Walnut Creek, is closing on December 29th. They are still open in Concord, Pleasanton and Emeryville. Thanks to everyone who emailed about this.
32 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette
The Cooperage, which opened over five years ago in Lafayette is now The Coop, as you can see by the updated signage in the above photo. Check out their menus here. Please tell me that’s a temporary sign that’s going to be replaced eventually.
I know that organic produce tends to be smaller but these apples I spotted at Whole Foods the other day are ridiculously small! They are like over-sized cherries! Can you imagine eating one like a regular-sized apple? Just the thought makes me snicker! Anyway, in my family we eat Fuji apples. I’ve tried buying other varieties but they always tell me to go back to the Fuji. What is your favorite apple variety?
2905 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
Over the weekend I stopped by the soon-to-open Mediterranean restaurant Manakish Oven and Grill in Walnut Creek and one employee said they are planning to open this weekend. Check for updates on their Facebook page here.
