Thanks to a reader for pointing out this Napa Valley Register article stating that the Napa-based fast casual restaurant Heritage Eats is coming to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. Considering how crowded True Food Kitchen is all the time I’m not surprised another restaurant is opening here.

7:00 – 8:00pm | FreeJoin us for an evening with Olympic medalist, Eddie Hart and award-winning sportswriter, Dave Newhouse as they discuss their new book Disqualified: Eddie Hart, Munich 1972, and the Voices of the Most Tragic Olympics which sheds entirely new light on the true story of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany.
A strong favorite to win the 100-meter dash and the title of World’s Fastest Human, Hart found himself disqualified from the 1972 Olympic event after arriving seconds late for a quarterfinal heat. Harts disappointment, though excruciating, was just one of many subplots to the most tragic of Olympic Games, at which eight Arab terrorists assassinated eleven Israeli athletes and coaches as the world watched in horror.
Eddie Hart earned his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and a master’s from Cal State-Hayward before embarking on a career as a teacher and coach at the college level. Dave Newhouse was an award-winning sportswriter and columnist at the Oakland (CA) Tribune prior to his retirement in 2011. This is his twelfth book.
Willows Shopping Center, Concord
Rick’s Rather Rich Ice Cream opened almost two years ago in Willows Shopping Center in Concord and they have now closed. Check out their original Palo Alto location which remains open.

The laser hair removal salon LaserAway is relocating a few blocks from their N. Main St. location to the new Lyric apartment complex later this year on Bonanza St. in downtown Walnut Creek. Sandwiched in between Drybar and Sweetwaters Cafe, check out their Walnut Creek services here.

Thursday, September 28th – Saturday, October 21st, 2017Based upon a Hans Christian Andersen fairy-tale, The Song of the Nightingale is a magical, musical romp for the whole family that reminds us that true beauty and worth is always found within. In an ancient empire in China, a beautiful Nightingale sings. Seeking to better her station in life, a lowly kitchen maid captures the bird and presents it to the Emperor. But the Emperor is soon distracted, and fails to see the plain little brown bird’s true inner beauty.
Lyric, Walnut Creek
Michigan-based Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea is opening their first California location right in downtown Walnut Creek at the new Lyric complex on Bonanza St, a couple of stores down from Drybar, which opened recently. Check out their menu here. They feature a variety of coffees and teas such as French Vietnamese Au Lait and Cocoa Cappuccino and teas like Winter Blossom and Japanese Sencha. They also offer frozen drinks, shakes and pastries, desserts as well as lighter fare such as quiche, sandwiches and salads. Interestingly, it looks like the boba craze must have not hit Michigan as I don’t see any mention of boba drinks!

Veranda Shopping Center, Concord
Toys R Us, which is planning to come to the new Veranda shopping center in Concord, located right next to the Willows shopping center, filed for bankruptcy today. From the USA Today article:
The bankruptcy filing may make some shoppers reluctant to make Toys R Us a destination during the upcoming holidays, and there may be gaps on some shelves if skittish suppliers decide to hold back on some deliveries. But bankruptcy could also give the toy store chain some relief, enabling it to cancel leases and abandon poorly performing locations.
I wonder if this will affect this opening?

4:00 – 5:00pm | FreeKids will be building and decorating model rockets, and then watching them pneumatically launched into the sky! We use card-stock and foam to construct these simple and safe models, and “blast off” will be performed by library staff. All supplies will be provided.
