Danville Square
In December we learned about a new cupcake and ice cream shop called Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery coming to Danville Square where zpizza used to be and their signage is now up so hopefully they’ll be opening soon… Check out their menu here. According to their FAQ, they will also offer pupcakes, “made with carrot cake, pumpkin, soybean oil, peanut butter and buttercream. Our signature Pupcake is then topped with a real Milkbone training treat!”
Agora at South Main, Walnut Creek

Palos Verdes Mall, Walnut Creek
Thanks to a reader for sending word that Kuki’s Ice Cream Cakes, which opened a couple of years ago in the Palos Verdes mall in Walnut Creek, has closed. According to a sign in the window Taqueria La Plaza will be opening here soon. I wonder if this is the same restaurant in Concord on Sutter St?
The Veranda, Concord
The gym City Sports Club is set to open tomorrow at the Veranda shopping center in Concord. Interestingly you can peek through the windows from the outside to look at the pool. I wonder if they’ll add some privacy screening to the windows…

FreeEach year, over 220,000 people attend this dazzling display showcasing the color and grace of the Japanese culture and the diversity of the Japanese American Community. We expect this year to be filled with special events and new attractions.
This year’s Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15 and April 21-22, 2018. All are welcome to join in the festivities as we celebrate Japanese and Japanese American culture in San Francisco’s Japantown!
The festival will be held within the borders of Laguna and Fillmore Streets between Geary Boulevard and Bush Street. There will be food booths, cultural performances, martial arts, live bands, the annual Queen Program, and more. The Grand Parade will be held on Sunday, April 22, beginning at 1pm starting from City Hall and concluding in Japantown.

Last year we learned that Beauty Lounge in downtown Walnut Creek would be getting a wine bar and this is expected to open by the beginning of May. Their Palos Verdes location has had a wine bar for seven years. In addition to wine and beer they also plan to offer martini cocktails made with soju sake. In a FQotD post over five years ago I first asked about favorite delis and now that Brass Bear and Main Street Deli have closed in downtown Walnut Creek I think now is a good time to see what favorite delis are out there these days. I still prefer Domenico’s in Danville.

Over processed Boar’s Head meat, no interesting menu choices and the bread is grocery store quality… no thanks… My rule is this: if I can make it at home with Safeway products, then I’m not interested.
