Holi is an ancient festival from India that celebrates the beginning of spring. Participants throw brightly colored powdered pigments on each other as a way to commemorate the vibrant, abundant colors of springtime and to say farewell to the long winter.

Along with the traditional throwing of colors, there will be plenty of free activities for the family, which include face painting, henna tattoo artists, dance performances, live music, gourmet food trucks and a Kids Zone.

Monaluna Closes Retail Shop in Downtown Walnut Creek

The organic fabric shop Monaluna which opened a few years ago in downtown Walnut Creek on Mt. Diablo Blvd. has closed. However, according to a letter in the window they are still creating fabrics and products in Walnut Creek, about a mile from this location, which be available on their online shop here. They will also be visible at local pop-ups and markets and once their new studio opens they also may be offering free local shipping and pickup.

Twisted Times Restaurant, Sports, and Spirits Coming to Walnut Creek this Summer

A new restaurant called Twisted Times Restaurant, Sports, and Spirits is planning on opening this summer in Walnut Creek where Tullio’s Italian Restaurant used to be. Check out their menu here.

Question of the Day – Do you Follow a Specific Diet?

This week we learned that Galpao Gaucho Steakhouse will be coming to downtown Walnut Creek and I thought, this will be great for those on a paleo diet. I try to limit my intake of highly processed foods as much as possible but don’t follow any diet in particular. Do you follow a specific diet?

Thai Thani and Oishi Japanese Restaurant Opening Soon at The Orchards in Walnut Creek

Last month we learned that the restaurant Thai Thani would be coming to the Orchards shopping center in Walnut Creek and as you can see in the above photo they are planning to open this month. What I find interesting is this will be both a Thai AND Japanese restaurant and even has two names! Thai Thani and Oishi. I’ve never heard of something like this before but did learn that a previous location in Tampa, Florida closed a couple of years ago. According to the Tampa Bay Newswire, “quality and simple, locally harvested and grown, ingredients are the basis for each dish created and feature common flavorings of traditional Thai and Japanese cuisine.”

New District Signs Popping Up in Orinda

I’ve noticed new signs popping up all over Orinda including this Orinda Theatre District sign on Moraga Way. Compared to other theater districts with multiple theaters, you might wonder exactly how many theaters are located in the Orinda Theatre district. The answer is one. A movie theater. They do host concerts there.

Lenka Glassner, author and renowned folk artist will talk about the colorful history, traditions and techniques of this ancient art. In addition, Lenka will be introducing her new book “Czeching In” where a chapter is dedicated to egg decorating.

Galpao Gaucho Steakhouse Coming to Downtown Walnut Creek
