In 2019 the San Francisco Cinco de Mayo celebration will return to the heart of the Mission District as San Franciscans will celebrate one of our City’s most spectacular traditions at Mission Neighborhood Centers’ 15th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration on Saturday, May 4th, on Valencia Street. This family-friendly celebration which is being held on one of the Mission’s trendy, main thoroughfares, will occupy Valencia Street between 21st and 24th Streets. The celebration will showcase the very best of Mexican and Latin American cultures with a diverse array of Mexican and Latino foods, music, dance and artistry for the entire family to enjoy. Approximately 9,000 attendees will enjoy rich cultural experiences and activities focused on empowering our community through greater awareness.

Half Price Books Closing in Concord – “Special Send-Off Reception” on May 5th

Say it ain’t so! Half Price Books is closing this Sunday, May 5th in Concord. Don’t miss the reception and hopefully they’ll reopen somewhere else in Concord…

We are still hopeful we’ll find a new location in the area, but it won’t be before we close in Downtown Concord this Sunday, May 5.

As we prepare to close our doors, we would like to take the time to thank our Concord community for the overwhelming support they’ve shown during this transition. We’ll host a special send-off reception at the store on Sunday, May 5, from 3 to 6 p.m. We hope people will stop by to share their favorite HPB Concord memories with the staff and fellow booklovers.

First Seaweed, Now Granola Bars?! Cancer Warnings Run Rampant

As I was checking out the granola bar selection at Lafayette Trader Joe’s I did a double take as I noticed a cancer warning about the Peanut Butter Chewy Coated & Drizzled Granola Bars:

This product can expose you to furfuryl alcohol, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer.

Well, you can imagine which granola bar box I chose, Chocolate Chip of course! Furfuryl alcohol? Sounds particularly dangerous to me. In addition to cancer I imagine growing fur in strange places if I eat one too many of these granola bars.

Earlier this year we learned that Lavash, a Mediterranean restaurant from the owners of Silk Road in Walnut Creek called would be coming to Lafayette where Rustic Tavern used to be and as you can see in the above photo their signage is now up.
