Diablo Dish reported that Poke Don, a new, “Hawaiian-style seafood in a made-to-order environment” opened last month in Diablo Plaza in San Ramon where Extreme Pita used to be. Check out their menu here.

1524 Locust St, Walnut Creek
Last month we learned that Limon Rotisserie would be coming to downtown Walnut Creek and now another restaurant, Pleasanton-based Lokanta Mediterranean Grill & Bar, looks set to open in downtown Walnut Creek as well. Check out their dinner menu here and lunch menu here.
An employee at Lokanta did indicate they would be opening however according to city permit information both restaurants are using the same 1524 Locust St. address. If you look closely at the above photo you may notice that it’s split with an internal wall, however the address at left is 1524 and the address at right is 1520 so we’ll see if this space will be occupied by both restaurants or not. Earlier this month Claycord reported that The Old Hangout closed in Concord but according to the latest permit information from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control it looks like there may be a new owner. Anyone know what’s going on?


3116 Oak Rd, Walnut Creek
Last month we learned that Mika’s Japanese Cuisine closed in Walnut Creek and now another Japanese restaurant called Kama Sushi has reopened in this location. Check out their moriawase combo menu below. In addition to sushi dishes they also have a separate vegetarian menu featuring dishes such as agedashi tofu, nasu miso, vegetarian nigiri, and salads.

Thanks to a reader for sending word about the sandwich shop Jimmy John’s opening a new location in the former Quiznos spot on N. Main St. in Walnut Creek. Last year we learned about Jimmy John’s opening in Oak Grove Plaza in Concord. Check out their menu here.

1110 Concord Ave, Concord
Blaze Pizza, the pizzeria backed by basketball star LeBron James, is expanding like crazy with a new location opening soon in Concord in the new development that replaced the old Peppermill restaurant on Concord Ave. This development is also home to Habit Burger Grill and Noodles & Company. 1500 Mt Diablo Blvd. (3rd floor), Walnut Creek
Last May we learned about a new restaurant featuring seasonal, American cuisine called ROOFTOP that would be opening on the third floor of the new development at the corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and N. Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek and they plan on opening next month in April according to their Facebook page. On their website if you scroll around you can get a preview of their menu featuring dishes such as, “banana leaf wrapped black cod, cilantro, kaffir lime” and “grilled short ribs, spicy slaw, hoisin”. There will also be a raw bar as well as hand-crafted cocktails and select wines. The executive chef is Justine Kelly, who competed on Iron Chef and was the Chef de Cuisine at the San Francisco restaurant The Slanted Door.

1524 Locust St, Walnut Creek
San Francisco-based Peruvian restaurant Limon Rotisserie is coming to downtown Walnut Creek and according to the owner are “hoping to open by the end of August“. They will be located where Inge’s Footwear used to be on Locust St. Check out their food menu here and drinks menu here. Check for updates on their Facebook page here. Encina Grande, Walnut Creek
The Encina Grande shopping center on Ygnacio Valley Blvd. in Walnut Creek is getting a big makeover with Whole Foods replacing Safeway in a completely new building, and Walgreens relocating into a spot on the other side, and construction continues on the other end where Rocco’s Ristorante Pizzeria is located and as the signs show, they are open for business.
