San Francisco-based Peruvian restaurant Limon Rotisserie is coming to downtown Walnut Creek and according to the owner are “hoping to open by the end of August“. They will be located where Inge’s Footwear used to be on Locust St. Check out their food menu here and drinks menu here. Check for updates on their Facebook page here. I look forward to trying their free-range, open flame slow roasted rotisserie chicken!
From their website:
Executive Chef Martin Castillo has created Limon’s inspiring and culture blending dishes. This innovating Peruvian restaurant consolidated itself as a trendy destination for diners. In the spirit of perseverance, Chef Castillo along with his brothers Antonio and Eduardo all used this experience to learn, grow, and expand. Only a few years later, the well-established Limon Rotisserie became huge success for the Castillo brothers. The ambiance is as energetic as its menu, featuring an upscale setting with a modern flare. The bright colors represent a quintessential Peruvian hue while the Latin lounge music engages you soul to complete the experience. Under Castillo’s direction, Limon has been featured in numerous magazines, both national and international television channels. It has been voted as one of the Top 100 Restaurants in San Francisco for numerous years, 2002-2007 and again in 2009.

A reader asks:
Do you have any information if Molino’s Ravioli Factory shut down?
I dropped by recently and the gates are locked. Anyone know what’s going on?

1932 Oak Park Blvd, Pleasant Hill
Last month we learned that a new Italian restaurant called Wisegirl Ristorante Italiano & Cocktails would be opening in Oak Park Center in Pleasant Hill where Dallimonti’s Italian Restaurant used to be and they have now opened. Check out their menu here.
From their website:
WiseGirl Ristorante Italiano & Cocktails is an up and coming bar and restaurant where the décor and ambiance resemble a meeting place between Jay Gatsby and Al Capone. Nestled in the neighbor-friendly center off Oak Park Blvd., WiseGirl is part roaring twenties, part prohibition, two parts Good Fellas in a skirt, shaken-up with a whole lot of Italian roots. Music from your favorite local musicians fills the air. The menu takes a page from comfortable eating in old Sicily. The wine and cocktails embody an era reminiscent of warm cheeks, boisterous cheer and timeless memories.

Those of you who may remember the Soup Nazi episode on Seinfeld may not realize that it was based on a real soup vendor who ran a soup take out spot called Soup Kitchen International. At the time the episode came out I was living in New York so of course I had to check it out. Unbelievably, they ran out of bread right after I got my order which I thought was hilarious. Anyway, the soup turned out to be unbelievably delicious and I haven’t had another bowl of soup that stands up to it, until now.
Last evening as I walking to a 3D printing class at the Walnut Creek library I passed by Main St. Kitchen and noticed a worker eating a bowl of soup outside before it got busy. It looked good so I ended up dropping in and ordering the same soup. It turned out to be fennel sausage soup and it was the most delicious soup I’ve had in ages. I couldn’t believe my luck and not only was it insanely good, it filled me up nicely. And at $7.50 for the bowl, this is possibly the best dining deal in all of Walnut Creek. Since this really is their soup of the day, you’ll have to drop by soon to order it. Check for menu updates on their Facebook page here.
I’ll be back for sure, and and no need to worry about attitudes like the Soup Nazi in New York, the waitress was very friendly and helpful.

Enjoy the Soup Nazi Seinfeld scene:
