Join us for a series of cultural and culinary explorations as we are led by Lafayette mom and Local Food Adventures owner, Lauren McCabe Herpich, as she takes you through the rich history behind Town Hall Theatre and the excitement of its theatrical productions — all while enjoying some seriously delicious local flavors along the way.

During these two-hour guided celebrations, Lauren will take you on a behind-the-scenes journey through the Town Hall Theatre and introduce you to the professionals that bring the magic of the stage to life. You’ll also enjoy satisfying servings of foods and libations from local Lamorinda proprietors excited to expand on the theme of the theater.

Fat Maddie’s Opens in Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center

Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center

Last February we learned that the San Ramon-based restaurant Fat Maddie’s would be opening in the Downtown Pleasant Hill shopping center where Pasta Pomodoro used to be and they have now opened. Based on the planters in front it looks like there will be front and side patio seating. Check out their menu here.

Since 2010, Fat Maddie’s Grille in San Ramon has offered artisan, farmhouse inspired sandwiches, burgers, salads, and entrees – All made with the freshest local ingredients in a casual, family-friendly setting.

Named for our family’s favorite goat, FAT MADDIE’S rustic menu incorporates local, sustainable, and organic ingredients. The family is committed to serving only free-range and antibiotic free chicken as well as hormone and antibiotic free beef. FAT MADDIE’S eggs come from chickens on the family’s personal working farm and food waste is recycled to pigs on a neighboring ranch. As for the goat cheese, let’s just say that Maddie has her sources.

Sephora Coming to The Veranda this Summer in Concord

The French-chain cosmetics shop Sephora, owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, will be opening a 4,400 square foot store this summer at the Veranda shopping center in Concord. Check out their online shop and the brands they carry here.

Rustic Tavern Closing March 24th in Lafayette

Rustic Tavern opened almost five years ago in Lafayette and March 24th will be their last day according to their Facebook page. According to this Mercury News article it was due to a “lease dispute”. Based on the post it looks like they may be back soon in a new location. Stay tuned…

From their Facebook page:

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce on Saturday, March 24 will be Rustic Tavern’s last day at this location. We have enjoyed many years of Success in Lafayette and appreciate the support and loyalty of this amazing community. You love our food and we love you.

Regrettably, we have not been able to agree upon terms of a lease extension.

This is not the end of Rustic Tavern…..

We look forward to announcing our new venture as soon as possible!

Friday Question of the Day – Are you on Facebook?

With billions of active users, Facebook is the most popular social network in the world with an enormous social impact. One of the biggest referrals for this blog is Facebook and even though I personally don’t use it (other than to browse groups), I appreciate how important it is. Are you on Facebook?

This week we learned how others were able to acquire personal information for millions of Facebook users without their permission, interestingly, not due to a breach. Apparently this is how Facebook functions. People get to use it for free and in return, Facebook gets to harvest data about their users and sell it off for advertising and other purposes. Google and others also have such information but I’m not sure whether the founder, Mark Zuckerberg, is up to protecting people’s information. After all, in 2004 he had this to say in an instant message:

Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard
Zuck: Just ask
Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS
[Redacted Friend’s Name]: What? How’d you manage that one?
Zuck: People just submitted it.
Zuck: I don’t know why.
Zuck: They “trust me”
Zuck: Dumb fucks

I wonder if he took any ethics classes while at Harvard? Considering all that has happened would you ever consider not using Facebook?

310 Eatery Reopening in Albany on March 30th – Plans Underway to Eventually Reopen in Downtown Walnut Creek

310 Eatery, the L.A. style street food restaurant that originally opened in 2014 in Walnut Creek, and features some of the tastiest burgers in the Bay Area is set to reopen in Albany on March 30th where Grazzy Burgers used to be. Interestingly, they also plan on possibly returning to downtown Walnut Creek sometime in 2019 for an “unprecedented 5th
time”.

For those that have missed The 310 and it’s “Krazy-Delish” menu including some
favorites such as our Bacon Jam Fries, The 405 Traffic Jam Burger and Little Tokyo
Po’ Boy Soft Shell Crab sandwich, wait no more. The 310 has “Detoured” yet again.
The all too familiar A frames are up and this time Aaron Fong and The 310 goes full
circle having acquired the space which is the former home of Grazzy Burgers in
Albany, CA (now permanently closed). This spot is most dear to Aaron since it was
there where he began his career in the Burgers and Brew business as a server in
2013. While there, he became inspired to open his own “Burgers and Brew”
establishment, focusing on menu items that have been inspired by Street and
Comfort Foods of greater Los Angeles. The 310 launched in 2014 in Downtown
Walnut Creek.

Vans Footwear Coming to Downtown Walnut Creek

Diablo Ballet celebrates its 24th Anniversary with a special one-night only performance on March 22, 6:30pm at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The program will feature selections from Swan Lake along with new ballets, company favorites and the World Premiere short film celebrating Diablo Ballet’s Anniversary. “I am so very proud to be celebrating this special anniversary performance with the community and patrons that have kept us on our toes for the last 24 years,” states Artistic Director, Lauren Jonas.

This celebratory third program from the company’s 2017-18 Season will feature selections from Swan Lake including the Black Swan Pas de Deux, White Swan Pas de Deux, Coda and Variations. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa in 1895, this classic ballet will be staged by the Company’s Regisseur, Joanna Berman. The poetry of this timeless ballet and majestic score by Tchaikovsky will showcase the Diablo Ballet dancer’s stamina and training.
