What would a shopping mall be in 2018 without a poke restaurant? Thankfully we won’t have to find out as Poke Origin is opening soon in the Veranda shopping center in Concord.

Considering today is Friday the 13th, I’ve been thinking about superstitions and how I used to avoid black cats crossing a road. What superstitions do you believe in?

Park & Shop, Concord
Casa del Alfajor Rico Pan Bakery opened recently in the Park & Shop shopping center in Concord where Bonjour Bakery & Cafe used to be. I liked how they reused the Bakery & Cafe signage. Has anyone had a chance to try the alfajors? How do they compare to Sabores del Sur in Walnut Creek?

1631 Willow Pass Rd, Concord
The Brazilian steakhouse Brasas Do Brazil Churrascaria has opened where Mimi’s Cafe used to be on Willow Pass Rd. in Concord near the Park & Shop shopping center. Initially they’ll be open for lunch and later in the week they’re planning to open for dinner as well. Check for updates on their Facebook page here. The inside is very spacious to make room for the meat carts that pass by. I’ve never been to a Brazilian steakhouse before but on the tables next to each place setting are two cards; a green “Yes, Please” one and one in red, “no, thank you”. That way the person manning the cart will know whether to carve and serve you the meat dish. There is also a big self-serve salad bar in the middle and in the back is a separate space that can be reserved for parties etc. I look forward to trying this place out!
