When the stick-work sculptures made from woven willow saplings went up in front of the Walnut Creek Library at Civic Park a couple of years ago I knew they would be gone within two years, but driving by recently and seeing them missing, replaced by a forlorn dirt patch, made me somehow sad. You can still see the Hand of Peace sculpture and the recently completed colorful mural in the background towards the top left in the above photo.

How concerning is this? Step one for me is to stop touching my face!
From an advisory:
Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) has confirmed the first positive case of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, involving a resident of the county.
The person tested positive this afternoon. Our County’s public health lab conducted the test, which is expected to be confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in the coming days. The patient, who is being treated at a hospital in the county, had no known travel history and no known contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
This movie theater scene from 1995’s Outbreak makes me nervous:

Ginger’s Gelato, which opened over a year ago at Citrus Marketplace in Walnut Creek, is under new ownership and features a coffee bar, Contra Costa Coffee, where they offer espresso, lattes, coffee, tea and more. The gelato, with additional flavors, is from the same recipe as the original owners and they still have hand packed pints for sale as well. Check out their website here.

More photos, including latte art, after the jump…

Thanks to a reader for sending the above photo showing that the Golden State Warriors Team Store, which opened a few years ago in downtown Walnut Creek across from Broadway Plaza, has closed. Considering the Warriors last place standing, this is not at all surprising. You may recall that in January the Giants Dugout store closed as well, right next door.

The Orchards, Walnut Creek
Last fall we learned that Pittsburg-based Antojitos Taqueria would be coming to the Orchards shopping center in Walnut Creek and they have now opened. Check out their menu here.
