Chris Cain’s jazz-tinged, blues soaked guitar and deep, warm vocals have the maturity and authenticity of bluesmen many years his senior. His expressive style is the result of a lifetime of study and the relentless pursuit of music mastery. His passion and intensity are a blend of his mother’s Greek ancestry and his father’s soulful black heritage.
I believe this Philz Coffee mural replaced the Marie Callender mural near the corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and S. California Blvd. in Walnut Creek. The ladder at the end almost looks real from this viewpoint!
Thanks to a reader for sending word that the first “Take a Book, Leave a Book” lending library has made it to the urban downtown Walnut Creek area next to Vineyard Vines on N. Main St. under the Bicycle Watchers bike rack created by local artist Joe Bologna. The developer is partnering with the Walnut Creek Library Foundation who will assist with keeping books stocked if necessary.
What a great idea, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these lending libraries in an urban area before!

A new coffee shop called Lever Coffee Parlor is coming to downtown Walnut Creek where Schroder Insurance used to be. In addition to coffee and food, there will also be a barber shop! Check out the coffee parlor site here and barber shop site here.
From their website:
Our coffee is sourced from artisan partners who view coffee cultivation as a time honored tradition. We pay respect to the beans we collect by using hand-built Lever Press machines to brew our espresso or going slow with a thoughtful pour over for you to enjoy.
Thanks to a reader for sending [downtown Walnut Creek]:
“Please enjoy this random act of kindness” with 3 quarters taped to a parking meter on Main St near Cypress.

Last December we learned that Scout & Molly’s Boutique was closing in downtown Walnut Creek and now Riki Dalal Bridal House has opened in this spot.
From their website:
For over 40 years Dalal’s mission was simple – Create the dream dress for every bride coming into her shop. That did not change over the years. Using her trademark style – Daring backs, tight rears, deep necklines, and intricate detail – Made Riki Dalal well-known among the more sophisticated brides in her home town.
