Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Thanks to everyone who emailed that The Dallas Morning News has reported that Neiman Marcus, which opened in 2012 at Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek, has added this location as one of the nine stores to its closing list. It’s expected to close after Christmas. The boarded up windows you see in the above photo were taken over the weekend due to a downtown demonstration.
With people staying home these days, I’ve noticed that nurseries are becoming quite popular. Do you have a vegetable garden? How long have you had one for? I bought garden soil for my planters but promptly killed most of my seedlings before they even had a chance. One of these days I’ll figure out how to grow vegetables.
Short baguette bags are incredibly annoying and unhygienic. The bread end invariably pops out on the checkout stand or in the cart and I wonder what kind of disease-laden virus or bacteria has latched on. Sometimes at home, I cut off the end and throw it away I’m so disgusted. Recently, I decided to buy a baguette when I noticed the bag has been extended and folded over, allowing for a semi-secure closure. I was thrilled to see this and hope this never goes away, even when the Covid-19 pandemic is over.
Am I being too obsessive about this?

The signage for the Italian restaurant Taverna Pelligrini, which opened almost five years ago in Orinda, has been taken down and it’s empty inside. Not looking good.
Thanks to a reader for sending a photo of the Bullman with Bulldog sculpture that has been yarn bombed by Bedford Gallery Docent Adrienne Rogers. Previously masked Bullman with Bulldog photos are here and here.

I’ve received quite a few emails about Scott’s Seafood in Walnut Creek… They look to be closed for the time being, despite indicating they’re open on their Facebook page. If they are planning to reopen once indoor dining is available, why wouldn’t they mention this on their website and social media pages?
From a Facebook Community Post, “We will re-open in both locations when the ban on indoor dining lifts.”

Detailed instructions are here and remember to get the form back to them by August 28th. By supporting local business like Up the Creek Records, you’ll be helping the community out as well as having fun getting some cool vinyl records!

Months into the coronavirus pandemic and one thing I always appreciated was being able to take a nature walk on nearby trails to clear my mind. Or sit outside reading a book. Thanks to the recent fires I can’t even do that. So I’m stuck at home where even the inside air isn’t all that great. How are you handling these twin disasters? What do you think the next calamity to strike the Bay Area will be?
