Spring Wine & Chocolate Stroll in Danville on May 5th

Auburn James, Glennhawk, El Sol Winery, and Campovida are a few of the wineries pouring at the Downtown Danville Spring Wine and Chocolate Stroll. Danville Chocolates, Sweet Street, and Heavenly Taste Toffee will showcase their decadent creations while area wineries pour their best vintages and music will fill the air with jazz tones and complimentary grooves.

Your $35 ticket includes a commemorative glass, wine tasting, food bites, and entertainment. The Designated Driver ticket is $15 and includes non-alcoholic beverages and food bites. Tickets sell out quickly so get yours soon!

Tickets are $35 each and can be redeemed for wine glasses at the corner of Hartz & Prospect Avenues from 5:30-7:00pm the night of the event.

The Candy Counter Closing by End of May in Downtown Walnut Creek

To all sweet tooths: sadly, The Candy Counter, which opened a couple of years ago in downtown Walnut Creek is closing by the end of the month. Unlike other sneaky, lawyer-approved closing sales, the sign outside indicates that everything is 50% off.

Coast by Coast Mobile Fashion Pop-Up in Broadway Plaza over the Weekend

The coastal lifestyle brand Coast by Coast, in collaboration with Lou & Grey, displayed their swimwear and lifestyle clothing from a 1972 VW bus in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek over the weekend. Check out their website here. This was a fun and unexpected display to see at a giant shopping plaza such as Broadway Plaza. I hope this happens more often!

Progress on Buffalo Wild Wings in Concord

In January we learned that Buffalo Wild Wings, the Ohio-based restaurant featuring wings, beer and sports was coming to Concord and there has been plenty of progress as you can see in the above photo with the iconic signage up. There will be dedicated takeout parking spots as well which should be convenient for quick pickups. Check out their menu here. Stay tuned to see what else will open in this new shopping center.

Is this hurting downtown Walnut Creek (outside Broadway Plaza) or is it helping downtown with all the new stores opening up?

Craig is a Pulitzer Prize Nominee, Speaker and Author. He also has been a nationally-syndicated columnist and award-winning television producer. A regular contributor to Sierra Heritage magazine, this author has written nearly a dozen books on the Old West featuring true tales of the California Gold Rush 49’ers.

Beer, Wine and Food Service coming to Brenden Theatres in Concord in May

Next month you’ll be able to enjoy beer and wine along with burgers and other dishes while watching a movie at Brenden Theatres in Concord as a redesigned dining area near the entrance opens. According to an employee, look for around six or seven beers plus around six more on tap as well as wine and various food items eventually including burgers that you can eat there or better yet, bring with you to enjoy while watching a movie. Note that this doesn’t apply to “G” rated movies.

Eyesore of the Day

As you drive into Moraga from Lafayette and pass by these buildings you may wonder what barracks are doing in Moraga. That would be an insult to barracks. I’ve driven by plenty of times before, never noticing this. It turns out before this month there were dozens of tall trees hiding this eyesore. This is actually the face of Campolindo High School, one of the best performing high schools in Contra Costa County.

According to this Lamorinda Weekly article, “the trees were tall but frail and drought-affected”. I’ve been to Campolindo; the Soda Aquatic Center is first-rate, as is the gym and performing arts center. I would love to know the history of Campolindo and why they felt putting these buildings up facing Moraga Rd. was a good idea. Maybe they should put up a wall and have the students paint murals every year for art projects. I’d rather look at that driving by than this. What do you think?
