Learn how to capture the rain that falls on your roof for use in irrigating your landscape, seedling starts, mushroom cultivation, and emergency water storage.
In this workshop, you’ll learn about many types of rain collection, from 55 gallon barrels to 5,000 gallon storage tanks. In the hands-on section, students will participate in the construction of a home rain barrel system.

Dunkin’ Donuts may be Replacing Ghost Golf in Concord

Thanks to a reader for sending word (and photo) that Dunkin’ Donuts is planning on opening in Concord (with a drive-thru lane) where the miniature golf spot Ghost Golf is currently located on Clayton Rd. Check out their website here. There is even an online petition requesting that Ghost Golf’s lease be renewed. Sign it here.

Dunkin’ Donuts and the landlord are forcing Ghost Golf out! Ghost Golf is a spooky themed miniature golf place owned by a hardworking husband and wife. Since the decorations and aminatronics are difficult to move, as well as the cost, they are unable to relocate. The owners of Ghost Golf put many years and their heart and soul into this project, but this landlord is erasing it! There is nothing similar to Ghost Golf and only one miniature golf place within 20 miles of Ghost Golf. There are plenty of empty sites in Concord, so why kick out one that has a very successful tenant? Save Ghost Golf before it’s too late!

TJ Maxx Opening Nov 19th in Walnut Creek

Earlier this year we learned that the discount department store TJ Maxx would be opening in Ygnacio Plaza in Walnut Creek where the supermarket Fresh & Easy used to be and the signage is now up with a grand opening on November 19th from 8am to 8pm.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that the owners of Graze in Moraga have opened a new Hawaiian take-out focused spot in the Crossroads of Danville shopping center on San Ramon Valley Blvd. Interestingly, they have spam musubi. I-680 Contra Costa Express Lanes Now Open

Last spring we asked about the impending I-680 express lanes running from Alamo to Dublin and it’s now open and in-effect from 5am – 8pm on weekdays. It’s free for carpools and qualifying clean-air vehicles but a new FasTrak Flex toll tag is required for high occupancy vehicles in which the number of passengers can be set. For solo drivers it will be possible to pay a toll which changes based on traffic conditions. Check out the I-680 express lanes information sheet here. Has anyone had a chance to use the new system? Does it help with traffic? Or does it feel like an additional tax ?

Stabbing at Lafayette BART Station – Search for Suspect continues in Lafayette

From the Lafayette PD:

BART PD and local law enforcement officers are currently searching for a suspect in a stabbing at the Lafayette BART Station. The suspect is a white, male, in his 20s with blonde hair wearing a green jacket. The suspect exited the BART Station and is believed to be on foot in the neighborhood of the station.

This incident began at 1000 this morning

If you see the suspect, please contact our dispatch center at 911. Expect to see officers and canines in the area as they search for the suspect.

Please stay away from this area if possible.
