Lafayette Res Run on Oct 21st

The Run is the city’s most popular “family affair”, involving kids, parents, grandparents, and hundreds of serious runners from throughout the Bay Area. Participants compete in a 10k or 5k certified runs and a 2 mile run/walk for fun through downtown Lafayette, around the reservoir (10k only) and back. Sprinters, walkers, the “stroller brigade” and many of Lafayette’s top four legged residents share the streets on that festive Sunday morning. Don’t miss the live music by the Stanley Middle School Band and the Healthy Lifestyles Fair!

Race Descriptions:

5k Certified Race – flat, “chip” timed course, runners only (NO Dogs or Baby Strollers). Lafayette Reservoir Run 5k Map
10k Certified Race – hilly, “chip” timed course around the reservoir, Dogs on Leash & Baby Strollers OK. Lafayette Reservoir Run 10k Map
2 Miles Run/Walk for Fun – No Timing – Fun Run ONLY, Dogs on Leash & Baby Strollers OK.

Starbucks Opens at Rossmoor Town Center in Walnut Creek

Three years ago we learned about Starbucks coming to the Rossmoor Town Center in Walnut Creek and they have now opened. This one also has a drive-thru as you can see in the above photo. Thanks to everyone who emailed about the opening. There is plenty of new space so I look forward to see what other shops will be coming here.

Danville Soup and Salad Shack Opens on East Prospect Ave

Danville Soup and Salad Shack, which we learned would be coming to Danville earlier this year where Edge Boutique used to be on E. Prospect Ave, has now opened. Waiting for the (not Craftsman) Hammer to Drop on Concord Sears as Bankruptcy Declared

This broken sign outside Sears at the Sunvalley Valley shopping center in Concord is representative of the decline of one of the most dominant retailers of the 20th century as Sears declared bankruptcy yesterday. Although the Concord Sears is not on the list to close it’s probably only a matter of time before the hammer drops there as well. And it won’t be a Craftsman either as that iconic brand was sold last year to Stanley Black & Decker. Do you think the Concord Sears will survive? If not, how long do you expect them to last? If you’re interested to see how far they’ve fallen I encourage you to check them out and walk around a while before it’s too late. I did that over the summer and was shocked at what happened, especially to the electronics section, where TVs are no longer sold, and it looks dreary throughout.

The SRV Ski & Snowboard Swap hosted by the SRVHS PTSA is a great place to outfit your family with winter gear for skiing and snowboarding at discount prices. They will have a huge selection of new and used skis, boards, boots, poles, helmets, goggles, and apparel in adult and children’s sizes, along with expert advice to make sure you get just the right fit.

You’ll find skis, boards and boots from Rossignol, K2, Volkl, Dynastar, Burton, Salomon and more. Snowsuits, bibs, pants, snow boots, jackets, gloves in all sizes, from name brands such as Columbia, Obermeyer, Burton, North Face, Sorel, etc. at ¼ to 1/2 of original prices.

If you have gently used equipment or outerwear that your family has outgrown or no longer needs, you can donate it to the swap. The funds raised from its sale will go back to the school to help fund educational programs. All donations are tax deductible.

Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant Saved from Eviction at Encina Grande in Walnut Creek

Last week I posted a note from a reader who was lamenting the impending loss of Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant in the newly remodeled shopping center Encina Grande in Walnut Creek and it turns out the complaints worked as Jade Garden was able to renew their lease according to cbslocal.com. As for the UPS store next door, it turns out the owner took a big loss and will relocate to Orchards shopping center across the street in a few months with a new owner.

YogaWorks Planning on Relocating to Main Street Plaza in Walnut Creek

The discount home goods store Tuesday Morning closed last year in Main Street Plaza in Walnut Creek and according to the latest city planning commission agenda YogaWorks is planning on relocating from their Plaza Escuela location to this more prominent spot. It will be less than 7,000 sf while the rest of the 17,000 space is expected to remain empty for now. Check out their schedule here and pricing here.
