Last week I noted that Bracchiale was relocating to the backside of Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and in its place the jeans store True Religion will temporarily relocate there in January as that entire side of Broadway Plaza between Macy’s and Nordstrom gets remodeled. The other side apparently will stay open as stores scramble to find spots elsewhere within Broadway Plaza, downtown Walnut Creek or decide to leave Walnut Creek completely.

1518 Bonanza St, Walnut Creek
Back in May I noted that the Japanese restaurant Fujian was closing in downtown Walnut Creek on Bonanza St, to be replaced by an Indian restaurant called Kanishka’s and door signage is now up with a planned Fall opening. However, take a look at the photo below and you’ll notice a red notice which is a stop order from the city, hopefully it’s not delayed too long. They are currently looking for a head chef on Craigslist here.
From their Facebook page:
Kanishka’s brings a hi-energy socializing Gastropub experience over Global Fusion mashup, Neo-Indian small plates seductively paired w microbrews n wines.
A couple of weeks ago I noted that a new e-cig store called 3 Kings would be opening in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and they are now open. So if you need some e-cig e-juice like Outlaw Menthol, Blueberry Sweet Tart and Lizard Milk you should check them out.

From the Moraga PD:
On Saturday, 10/12/13 at 1:12pm, Moraga Police Officers responded to the Moraga Safeway on a report of shoplifting. It was reported that two subjects had taken a shopping cart full of groceries from Safeway, then fled in a silver Chevrolet Astro van towards Orinda. Orinda PD located the vehicle in front of Bev Mo (6 Camino Pablo, Orinda) and detained three female occupants.
Subsequent investigation revealed that a full shopping cart had been staged inside the Moraga Safeway by two of the suspects and the third suspect later entered Safeway, located the filled shopping cart, and exited the store without paying for the items, valued at over $1,000. An alert Safeway employee witnessed the theft and notified the police. During the investigation, a search of the vehicle also revealed suspected rock cocaine.
Moraga Police arrested all three suspects and they were booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed felony charges including commercial burglary, grand theft, and possession of a controlled substance on all three suspects.
The charged suspects are identified as Joyce Coleman (age 56), Phi Ngo (age 40), and Thuy Tran (age 57). All three suspects are residents of Oakland.
Further investigation has indicated that this commercial burglary crew has been active throughout the Bay Area and they have been linked with thefts and attempted thefts using the same method. Anyone who has any information regarding this investigation, please contact Detective Sgt. Brian South with the Moraga Police Department at 925-888-7052.

Last October I noted that the jewelry and fashion accessories store Bracchiale opened in Broadway Plaza at possibly the best Broadway Plaza location across from Nordstrom, next to Neiman Marcus, but all good things must end as they have been shuffled out to make room for the coming Broadway Plaza renovation. Nearby, The Walking Company is leaving next week, and Cole Haan left last April). However, they won’t be far away as they are moving into a new location at the backside of Broadway Plaza where Brighton Collectibles used to be during their remodel last month.
1601 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
A new showroom featuring bikes, books and hatchets called, appropriately enough, Rivendell Bike, Book & Hatchet is opening on N. Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek this coming Monday, October 21st. When I first met the owner and he told me the name and what he was planning on selling I thought he was joking, but it’s true; they have been making their own ‘lugged steel bicycle frames’ in Walnut Creek since 1994. Check out their complete bike selection here.
From their website:
Our mission is to make things that wouldn’t be made if we weren’t here, to offer an alternative to racing-centric bikes and parts, and to espouse a different approach to riding. And to resurrect and keep healthy many of the better ideas, designs, and styles of bicycles, clothing, and accessories that we personally like to use or wear. If you’d like to know more, just ask. It’s not a secret business we have here, and nothing’s too personal or private. -Grant
In addition to high-end road and touring bikes, they will also feature a custom selection of books (including children’s books), hatchets (for wood chopping). They even have their own clothing brand, called MUSA and also sell high-end clothing from Australia, New Zealand and England, and various odds and ends you won’t find anywhere else in downtown Walnut Creek.
From their clothing page:
You don’t need bike-specific clothing to ride a bike, and so mostly we sell normal-looking clothes that are secretly superb for cycling, and every bit as good off the bike, too. MUSA is our own brand. It means Made in the U.S.A., and nobody else sells them. We ride and work and hike and shop and dine in these all year round. The non-MUSA clothing generally comes from Australia, New Zealand, or England. Everything’s good.
I travel to NYC every now and then and this is the kind of store I would expect to see in SoHo or the LES, but Walnut Creek?! Incredible. I can’t wait to check it out when it opens next week!
Check out this sweet custom made poster of their shop:

From the Moraga PD:
The 12-yr.-old female runaway reported earlier today has returned home in good health. The Moraga Police Department thanks the community for its outpouring of support, and is pleased at the outcome.
