1616 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
The building where the Chinese restaurant OI-C Bowl is located in downtown Walnut Creek apparently has a problem with the section above the awning in front and because of city regulations a bunch of upgrades will need to be made. OI-C Bowl will remain open during the remodel but the parking lot next to it will be closed until December.
Last week I noted that Bracchiale was relocating to the backside of Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and in its place the jeans store True Religion will temporarily relocate there in January as that entire side of Broadway Plaza between Macy’s and Nordstrom gets remodeled. The other side apparently will stay open as stores scramble to find spots elsewhere within Broadway Plaza, downtown Walnut Creek or decide to leave Walnut Creek completely.

Explore the fascinating science of Earth’s own star—the Sun, through hands-on activities presented in partnership with Mount Diablo Astronomical Society. Have fun dancing the honey bee ‘waggle’—to music! Learn how bees dance to tell other bees where the nectar and pollen are, and how bees use the sun to give the best travel directions. Watch live honey bees do their own ‘waggle’ dance and take care of the hive in the museum’s Hive Alive! Exhibit (shown here) with its very active, real live bees complete with queen.
Lindsay Wildlife Museum is the first-ever Bay Area Science Festival partner in Contra Costa County.
This ambitious collaborative public education initiative brings together our leading academic, scientific, corporate, and non-profit institutions to showcase the region as an international leader in innovation. Based on similar festivals throughout the world, the 50+ festival events are expected to attract over 50,000 active participants, many of whom traditionally do not have access to quality scientific resources.

1518 Bonanza St, Walnut Creek
Back in May I noted that the Japanese restaurant Fujian was closing in downtown Walnut Creek on Bonanza St, to be replaced by an Indian restaurant called Kanishka’s and door signage is now up with a planned Fall opening. However, take a look at the photo below and you’ll notice a red notice which is a stop order from the city, hopefully it’s not delayed too long. They are currently looking for a head chef on Craigslist here.

A couple of weeks ago I noted that a new e-cig store called 3 Kings would be opening in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and they are now open. So if you need some e-cig e-juice like Outlaw Menthol, Blueberry Sweet Tart and Lizard Milk you should check them out.

From the Moraga PD:
On Saturday, 10/12/13 at 1:12pm, Moraga Police Officers responded to the Moraga Safeway on a report of shoplifting. It was reported that two subjects had taken a shopping cart full of groceries from Safeway, then fled in a silver Chevrolet Astro van towards Orinda. Orinda PD located the vehicle in front of Bev Mo (6 Camino Pablo, Orinda) and detained three female occupants.
Subsequent investigation revealed that a full shopping cart had been staged inside the Moraga Safeway by two of the suspects and the third suspect later entered Safeway, located the filled shopping cart, and exited the store without paying for the items, valued at over $1,000. An alert Safeway employee witnessed the theft and notified the police. During the investigation, a search of the vehicle also revealed suspected rock cocaine.
Moraga Police arrested all three suspects and they were booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed felony charges including commercial burglary, grand theft, and possession of a controlled substance on all three suspects.
The charged suspects are identified as Joyce Coleman (age 56), Phi Ngo (age 40), and Thuy Tran (age 57). All three suspects are residents of Oakland.
Further investigation has indicated that this commercial burglary crew has been active throughout the Bay Area and they have been linked with thefts and attempted thefts using the same method. Anyone who has any information regarding this investigation, please contact Detective Sgt. Brian South with the Moraga Police Department at 925-888-7052.
