Spotted in Baja Fresh Mexican Grill in downtown Lafayette, the sign at top says, “NO LARD”. I thought lard or rendered pork fat is a good thing as it makes the meal tastier. When I asked the cashier why they promote “no lard” he didn’t have a clue. Which is healthier lard or vegetable oil?
2035 Salvio St, Concord
Last month we learned that a new restaurant called WIld Ox would be opening near Todos Santos Plaza in downtown Concord and they have now opened. Check out the menu below.
Spotted in downtown Walnut Creek, this sign below a parking meter was added after the recent meter changes that went into effect including price increases to $2/hour, charges for Sundays and extending the time for charging until 8pm.
1364 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
Back in February we learned that We Olive in downtown Walnut Creek opened up a wine bar in the back and they are now offering a small “bites” menu to accompany the wine selections, including paninis, flatbreads, salads and hummus. Check out their “bites” menu here and their wine menu here.
1500 N. California Blvd, Walnut Creek
Back in May of last year we got a preview of the new apartment complex at 1500 N. California Blvd. in downtown Walnut Creek across from McCovey’s and it looks like demolition will happen soon as green fencing has gone up around the parking lot next to Scott Valley Bank which has been closed for a while.
Lottie’s Creamery has been selling brownie ice cream sandwiches for a while now at the Concord farmers market at Todos Santos Plaza on Thursdays and now they are also available at the Locust St. Walnut Creek farmers market on Sundays. Check out the varied selection below, most of which are not even available at their N. Main St. location in downtown Walnut Creek. Check out their Facebook page here.
337 Rheem Blvd, Moraga
Back in March of last year we learned that home/made kitchen cafe & bakery would be moving from the Haceinda to Rheem Blvd. where Mondello’s used to be in Moraga (a few doors down from 24 Hour Fitness) and lots of progress is being made including what looks like a large patio area in front. According to their website they are planning for a summer opening. Check out their menu here.
From their website:
home/made kitchen brings something fresh to the table, literally. Many of our ingredients are sourced from organic, local, sustainable farms and everything is made in house. The result is authentic, inspired California cuisine.
Located at 337 Rheem Boulevard in Moraga, the cafe will open this summer with approximately 40 seats indoors and 20 seats outdoors. The hours of operation will be Monday-Friday 6am-7pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am-3pm. Breakfast will be served all day with lunch in the afternoon, as well as packaged take out meals for dinner. – See more at: http://www.homemadekitchen.com/index/#sthash.GzQBzPVn.dpuf
