Two new exhibits, The Art of the Brick, and Became, are being shown at the Bedford Gallery in downtown Walnut Creek through December 20th.
From the exhibit website:
To kick off the Bedford’s 2015-16 exhibition season, themed Art + Play, the gallery will host The Art of the Brick® , an exhibition featuring large-scale sculptures constructed out of iconic LEGO® bricks. New York artist Nathan Sawaya creates awe-inspiring works out of this unlikely material, painstakingly crafting beautiful, playful pieces, and transforming the popular toy into something new.
In addition to Sawaya’s sculptures, the Bedford will exhibit IN PIECES, a collaboration between Sawaya and photographer Dean West, who have created a series of large-scale tableau compositions incorporating Sawaya’s LEGO sculptures into West’s photographs.
In the Alcove Gallery: Became by Jud Bergeron
The Bedford will present an ancillary exhibition of sculpture by San Francisco artist Jud Bergeron titled Became. His playful, colorful toy-like pieces reflect on the experience of becoming a parent.

The downtown Walnut Creek pizza scene has been exploding recently. Although Project Pie closed, two more pizzerias are coming to take its place. Last week we learned that Slice House would be coming to Walnut Creek and now San Jose-based pizzeria Take One Pizza is coming to downtown Walnut Creek next to Century Movie Theater where Coco Swirl used to be. Check out their menu here. Pizzas ready in 5 minutes.
From their website:
We’ve taken the model of a movie studio—call it the pizza studio—and made you the director at Take One Pizza where you call the shots. Pick the toppings you want exactly the way you want. Our staff moves when you say action and your pizzas are ready in 5 minutes or less. Daily, our chef hand selects over 40 fresh ingredients and toppings to choose from. Flaming hot, our brick ovens bake your pizza in three minutes or less. We are all about great flavor and convenience.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
In July we learned that lululemon would be relocating, along with ivivva, its shop geared towards athletic wear for girls within downtown Walnut Creek to Broadway Plaza and recently plans were submitted for a cool metal tree sculpture that would adorn the outside walls. Located across from Nordstrom, this will have a major impact in Broadway Plaza due to its visibility. I wonder how close the final design will be to this rendering. Stay tuned…
