The Bedford Gallery brings together the best of Bay Area crafters and artists for the Eighth Annual Bg CraftFest. This curated festival is a celebration of handmade gifts, featuring an array of unique items from jewelry to home goods. Held inside the gallery, visitors can shop the Craft Fest and see the current exhibitions, The Art of the Brick and Became by Jud Bergeron – admission is free both days!

The Bg Craft Fest is the perfect opportunity to get a head start on holiday shopping. Visitors can find one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on their list at this popular event. Craft Fest regulars including Shimmer Jewels and Jake’s Castro Kitchen are back and we have plenty of new surprises, including live crafting demos from Hollie’s Homegrown, Tea Drops and Blue Nectar Soaps.

Nespresso Opens in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek

Back in September we learned that the espresso machine maker Nespresso would be opening in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and they have now opened in a temporary popup location before relocating in the new redevelopment along the main road possibly in February.

As a tea drinker I wasn’t familiar with these at all so learned a lot and enjoyed an Americano drink with plenty of foam on top which looked great. They sell machines that make both espresso and coffee or just espresso, but since they are from Europe they don’t sell coffee makers by itself. The capsules (not pods) are different for making coffee (more expensive) and espresso (less expensive) and are available for purchase at the store. Check out a comparison of the machines here.

Madewell Opening in Broadway Plaza on Nov. 20th – Ivivva Opening on Black Friday

Thanks to a reader for pointing out that women’s fashion clothing store Madewell is having a grand opening event on Broadway Plaza’s reopening day on November 20th in downtown Walnut Creek. According to an employee at lululemon, their sister shop for athletic wear for girls ivivva will be reopening in their new Broadway Plaza location on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

What in the World?! Seaweed causes Cancer?

I was browsing the food aisles at Cost Plus World Market in Walnut Creek the other day looking for a healthy snack when I encountered something so unbelievable I still can hardly believe it. I can’t say I wasn’t sorely tempted by the chocolate wafer snacks from Europe and Japanese sweets but I was determined and finally found it; a roasted Korean sesame snack called Say! Crunch. I thought it would make for a tasty snack but then I noticed the sign above:

Products containing seaweed contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

I know I’ve seen a similar sign in parking garages million times, but seaweed causing cancer?! Is this really true?!

What’s going on with Slater’s 50/50 in Walnut Creek?

Last December we learned that the baseball-themed restaurant McCovey’s was closing in downtown Walnut Creek, to be replaced with Southern California-based burger restaurant Slater’s 50/50. Take a look at this June, door handle of the day post highlighting the McCovey’s bats door handles. Notice that there was no For Lease sign in June. Does this mean that Slater’s 50/50 is no longer coming to Walnut Creek?
