A new popup salon and photo studio called Stay Polished opened recently in Danville. Check out their services here. They will be at this location through February, 2020. I’ve never seen a salon combined with a photography studio before; this is a great idea to be able to get professionally taken photos for the local community!

Gordon H. Chang “The Transcontinental Railroad and the Chinese Workers”:
Blackhawk Museum
3700 Blackhawk Plaza Cir, Danville
Saturday, June 1st, 2019
10:30am – 12:30pm | Free with museum admissionGordon H. Chang is a professor of American History at Stanford University, a renowned author and Director, Center for East Asian Studies. His particular area of focus is trans-Pacific relations, the inter-connections between East Asia and America. He is interested in political, social, and cultural interactions from the earliest days of America to the present. His current research project concerns the recovery and interpretation of the experiences of Chinese railroad workers in North America.
His latest book, Ghosts of Gold Mountain, is being published this Spring, and in this groundbreaking account, Gordon draws on unprecedented research to recover the Chinese railroad workers’ stories and celebrate their role in remaking America. An invaluable correction of a great historical injustice, Ghosts of Gold Mountain returns these “silent spikes” to their rightful place in our national saga. It is a breathtaking history of the Chinese workers who built the Transcontinental Railroad, helping to forge modern America only to disappear into the shadows of history until now. There will be a question and answer session after the presentation as well as a book signing.
