Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Broadway Plaza is finally going to get some serious dining action when a huge, 6,000 sf health-focused restaurant called True Food Kitchen opens next to Macy’s in downtown Walnut Creek. As you can see by the above photo there is a lot of work left to do but according to their website, it is expected to open in the summer.
Lafayette Clocktower, Lafayette
A lot of people were bummed when they found out that the children’s bookstore, Storyteller Bookstore closed in Lafayette last year (not to mention Barnes & Noble in nearby Walnut Creek) but local kids (and their parents) are in luck as a new children’s bookstore called Bel & Bunna’s Books is planning on opening next month in May, taking over where Floret used to be in the Lafayette Clocktower off Mt. Diablo Blvd. According to their website, the bookstore will be, “a literary wonderland for children and young adults”. Check their Facebook page here for updates.

David has followed his passion around the world to Afganistan, Burma, Iraq, Peru, and Yemen. His photographic coverage of the 2011 Japanese tsunami, the 2008 earthquake, as well as social issues in the United States has won awards from World Press Photo, Communication Arts, American Photography Anual, Photo District News, and others. His current project, Seeing Buddha has been published in the New York Times and National Geographic magazine.
Butow’s photographs have been exhibited in various venues such at the Asia Society and United Nations in New York and Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan, France. He is a member of Redux Pictures and has been a guest lecturer at many institutions including the Annenberg Space for Photography, Stanford University and Brooks Institute of Photography. His commercial and editorial clients have included National Geographic Books, Apple and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Thanks to everyone who sent word that the independent cookware and gift store Kitchen Table is closing in downtown Walnut Creek. According to a sign in the window they will be closed until Wednesday to prepare for the “huge retirement and store closing sale” beginning on Thursday, April 14th.
Only a few years ago downtown Walnut Creek was home to five cookware stores, Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table, Viking, Le Creuset and Kitchen Table. Once Kitchen Table close there will only be two left: Williams-Sonoma and Sur La Table.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
The activewear clothing store lululemon has relocated from their downtown Walnut Creek location to Broadway Plaza and are now open. In October we learned about the metal tree design being overlayed on the storefront as as you can see in the photo above it has come to fruition, very cool looking! The iconic Hubcaps sign is gone from the Hubcaps diner in downtown Walnut Creek, replaced by the soon-to-open Sacramento restaurant Broaderick Roadhouse and today from 9am – 2pm there is a job fair so it looks like the opening will be happening soon as noted previously. Check out their menu here.
Spotted outside of the Orinda library. I thought this was a microscope but according to the artist notes it’s an “abstract micrometer” (precision measuring tool) “as the symbol of the bureaucracies trying to impose perceived standards on individuals”.
