The festivities include a Chinese lion dance, Asian art exhibits, Bollywood dancing, Japanese animated films, Henna hand painting, martial arts demonstrations and Chinese acrobats.

The Festival’s international fashion show will include an appearance by Miss Vietnam California, as well as men and women dressed in the traditional dress of Japan, China, Korea, the Philippines, India and several other Asian countries.

Asian-American book authors will discuss their books and sign copies for fans. There is a presentation by an expert on travelling in Asia who will provide tips on planning a getaway to far-off places.

Hops & Scotch Taproom & Whiskey Bar Opens at Avalon in Walnut Creek

After quite a wait the bar Hops & Scotch has opened in the Avalon apartment complex next to the Pleasant Hill BART station in Walnut Creek. In addition to 150 types of whiskey, cocktails and wine they also carry 40+ rotating beer taps. If you look closely at the photo below you can see the taps. The bottom photo shows the lcd screen featuring the available craft brews. They also offer small plates and have several TVs to catch the latest game. On May the 4th, the Town of Danville is celebrating all things Star Wars! A free scavenger hunt will start and end at the Danville Community Center. The first 150 participants to finish will receive a grab bag of Jedi treasures. -FREE! Two showings of one of the Star Wars movies at the Village Theatre. Noodle Theory Coming to Rheem Valley Shopping Center in Moraga

Exciting news for Moraga as the popular Rockridge and Emeryville Asian fusion eatery Noodle Theory is planning on opening a third location in the Rheem Valley shopping center in Moraga later this year after Graze closes sometime in June. Check out the Rockridge lunch menu here, and Emeryville Provisions menu here. I’ve been to their Rockridge spot several times which was amazing and apparently the chicken wings in Emeryville are the best so I hope they will offer that in Moraga as well.

Why Moraga of all places? According to the Graze owner the Noodle Theory owners live in Moraga so thankfully locals won’t need to head for Lafayette, Walnut Creek and beyond for top-tier cuisine anymore.

The Lafayette Community Music Festival is an annual benefit for Town Hall Theatre. The musicians on the bill donate their time and talents, with the proceeds benefiting Town Hall’s various programs. Personal to Political – Celebrating the African American Artists of Paulson Fontaine Press at Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek through June 24th

A new exhibit at the Bedford Gallery in downtown Walnut Creek, Personal to Political – Celebrating the African American Artists of Paulson Fontaine Press, is on display through March 25th.

This exciting exhibition features works by 14 African American artists who have helped to shape the contemporary art conversation in the Bay Area and beyond. The show covers a wide range of prints, paintings, quilts, and sculptures, and includes an array of abstract and formal imagery. Narratives that speak to personal experiences and political perspectives are woven throughout. At the heart of this show is a Berkeley based fine art print studio—Paulson Fontaine Press—who over the past two decades has developed an unparalleled roster of internationally celebrated artists – artists like Martin Puryear , Kerry James Marshall, and the Gee’s Bend Quilters – who characterize the fresh perspectives that are today’s avant-garde.

Friday Question of the Day – What Home Safety Precautions do you take?

This week the infamous Golden State Killer, AKA East Area Rapist, a former police officer who, according to this Wikipedia article, struck twice in Concord, twice in Walnut Creek, three times in Danville and once in San Ramon (among dozens of other rapes and murders) in the late 1970’s, was captured by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s department. I imagine the East Bay was a lot more rural and isolated than it is now and apparently before these attacks some people even kept their doors unlocked.

Coming from New York I’ve always taken precautions such as making sure all windows and doors are locked or securely fastened. What home safety precautions do you take?
