Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
The “d” is up, and men’s shoe store Allen Edmonds is now open in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek. In addition to shoes they also offer a selection of clothing and accessories. Check out their website here.
Every year the Lafayette Juniors offer a kitchen tour featuring several magnificent kitchens and homes in Lafayette to raise money for several non profit organizations and this year the beneficiaries are: Youth Homes, Diablo Ballet’s PEEK Outreach Program, the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, and Lamorinda Spirit Van. Find out more about these organizations here.
This Happy Valley kitchen and home has been featured in photo shoots for catalogs and local designers and has a serene, peaceful feel throughout. One of my favorite pieces is the lighting over the dining room table (see below). How cool is that?! As you can see in the photos after the jump, the kitchen boasts two full-sized sinks in the kitchen and plenty of counter space for prepping meals. Right outside is a beautiful looking pool and patio area surrounded by lush gardens which looks like the perfect place to relax and hang out with friends and family!
From the Lafayette Juniors description:
The updated classic home boasts a light, airy and open space that serves as a backdrop for many photo shoots for catalogs and local designers. As is appropriate to the transitional style of the home, the homeowner has mixed modern and traditional by using reclaimed wood floors, stainless steel materials, and industrial lighting. The tasteful kitchen features two honed Calacatta marble countertops, one with a prep sink and wine fridge. Three elegant pendant lights illuminate the center island and echo the nickel faucets. The dining area offers views of the pool and well-tended garden that boasts white flowers throughout. Thoughtful details are evident in all areas of the home and kitchen, including the kitchen millwork and the coordinating fridge and oven handles. The homeowner created a serene space where friends and family are encouraged to unwind.

Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center
The wait is over as “farm to plate” restaurant Urban Plates opens in the Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center on Crescent Dr. I was looking forward to trying this place out yesterday but even though the sign out front says “Now Open” they were closed. However, someone working there indicated they’ll be open today. In addition to healthy dining choices they also offer wine and local craft beer as well. The new outdoor patios with heat lamps look great. Check out the photos of the inside and patios after the jump. Check out their menu here.
Has anyone tried this place yet? What dishes do you recommend?

Next school year school will start 40 minutes later at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School in Moraga. Instead of a 7:50am start time school will begin at 8:30am. That means for those taking an extra period school will end close to 4pm. Considering how kids need more sleep is this a good idea or will the later end time cause havoc for extra curricular activities?
