Fosters Freeze spotted in downtown Danville. I’ve never actually been to one of these, is the ice cream any good?

Back in August I noted that We Olive in downtown Walnut Creek would be offering wine tasting and the wine bar is now open. Check out their complete wine list here. In the near future they plan on offering cheese and other pairings to go with the wine selections.
From the menu:
Our Wine Bar was created as a place to share our love of both great food and wine. We emphasize hard-to-find artisan wines from distinct regions throughout California. Consistent with our philosophy on Extra Virgin Olive Oil, we hand-select only the finest limited-edition California wines to share with our customers. All bottles of wine are available for retail purchase for $7 less than the listed price.

I recently stopped by for a peek inside the long awaited family restaurant The Cooperage American Grill which is scheduled to open this Sunday, March 2nd in downtown Lafayette. As expected, the remodel looks amazing with reclaimed wood from Petar’s being used throughout the restaurant.
Check out their dinner menu here. Brunch will be offered on March 15th (see menu here), with lunch available on March 24th (see menu here). Of interest is the Cooperage Burger, “8 oz. Angus burger, lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion jam, toasted bun, Kennebec French fries” for $13. I can’t wait to try this! Reservations can be made on their website here.
From their website:
The Cooperage American Grille, locally owned by Lafayette Residents, Andrew and Merilee McCormick, is a rotisserie-inspired american grill. Chef Erik Hopfinger’s extensive menu features American favorites like slow roasted chicken prepared in a glass-encased rotisserie oven, New York steak, beef tenderloin, and our signature burger (made with our own meat grinder at the grill). The Cooperage also offers healthier options, including a selection of salad entreés made with local and organically grown ingredients.
The Cooperage is comfortable for families dining with children and features a large bar area with flat screen TV’s, 12 beers on tap, eight wine selections on tap, and vintage cocktail list.
The inside is huge, check out the bar area below:

Last November I noted that Starbucks may be coming to the Mercer and they opened today in the Mercer apartment complex in downtown Walnut Creek. Peeking inside I could see a long table (at the lower left in the photo below) and small circular tables further inside at left as well. I expected a coffee shop to open in the Mercer years ago so it’s good to finally see something open up over there. (Thanks to a reader comment about today’s opening.)

Thanks to a reader for sending word that a new restaurant will be opening where The French Bakery is currently located on Lafayette Circle. The French Bakery’s last day will be March 2nd. I made a Judging Cafes post about The French Bakery a couple of years ago.
Stay tuned for news on the new restaurant…
531 Hartz Ave, Danville
Last month I noted that the restaurant Yo’s on Hartz featuring fusion-style Asian cuisine would be opening soon in downtown Danville and their signage is now up and they are open.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that Mika’s Japanese Cuisine has opened in the shopping plaza next to the Park Regency Apartments in Walnut Creek. Check out this photo by @foodhoe of their natto rolls. Being a huge fan of natto I’ll have to try this place one of these days. Has anyone been yet, what dishes do you like?
Check out the Valentine’s Day menu at Corners Tavern this year.

A new Chinese and Japanese restaurant called Golden Palace has recently opened on Moraga Rd. across from the Rheem Valley Shopping Center. Previously Iron Kitchen was located here. According to this brief from Lamorinda Weekly the owner and chef come from Asia Palace in the Moraga Shopping Center.

Last year I noted the opening and closing of Cafecitos Cafe in downtown Walnut Creek and they are now open for business again! Yesterday I noted another Latin American cafe Sabores del Sur that will be opening soon so I see a trend forming with Latin American cuisine.
With the reopening they also plan to offer beer and wine for sale. You can see the preliminary menu below. Note that the Lomo Saltado sandwich is still available.
