Back in May I noted that the “Almond Station” homes were coming to downtown Walnut Creek and as you can see progress is coming along nicely. I don’t see any signs though which may mean the houses have already been purchased. Location-wise I would say if you commute via BART this would be a great place to live as it’s only a 5-10 minute walk and also a short walk to downtown Walnut Creek as well.

**The race will be on a closed course, beginning at the San Pablo Dam boat launch ramp, at the San Pablo Reservoir located at the Orinda entrance (not the El Sobrante entrance) to the Reservoir. No cars will be allowed into the Reservoir after 8:40am, the gates will be CLOSED.

While strolling through the Orinda Theatre Square from the Table 24 entrance I noticed the aMFa art gallery I wrote about last May was empty, but luckily they are still around right around the corner where the Tiny Feet shoe store used to be.

Back in November I noted that the footwear and handbag store Footcandy would be closing and it turns out that Labels, the consignment store located right next door on N. Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek is expanding with a new handbag section in February. Diablo Style has an interview with the owner of Labels about the new expansion.
The owner Lynn Nice had this to say about what will be featured:
It will focus on handbags and accessories, because a lot of clients can be overwhelmed in the consignment setting. It’s a lot of pieces, and sometimes you just don’t know where to start. We looked at what generated the most income for our business, and hands down it was handbags, by a whopping percentage.
It looks like those great dividers that used to feature shoes will now feature handbags as well as jewelry.
Back in November I noted the January opening of the new 24 Hour Fitness in Walnut Creek at 2800 N. Main St. and there will be a grand opening celebration on Saturday, January 26th to mark the opening.

The annual Martin Luther King Day celebration will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 21 at the Civic Park Community Center Assembly Hall, 1365 Civic Dr. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Donna Allen, founder and paster of New Revelation Community Church Oakland. Music will be performed by the Shell Ridge Ramblers. The free event is sponsored by the Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center and the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County.
One of the most hotly anticipated restaurant openings is Ike’s sandwich shop which is planning on opening in downtown Walnut Creek a few stores down from the Cheesecake Factory. However, judging by Ike’s recent Facebook replies it looks like they are having a hard time obtaining a permit for some reason. Check what Ike had to say on December 28th:
I wonder what the problem is and whether the permit problem is related to the city or the county? I really hope they open by spring because I want to try one of their world renowned sandwiches!
