Golden Gate Way, Lafayette
It may not be Buckingham Palace, but this fence sure does bear a resemblance to the one surrounding Buckingham Palace in London, England. Spotted in all places on Golden Gate Way in downtown Lafayette. I wonder what the story behind this is.
Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the British monarch. More information can be found here. Official website is here.

Back in February of last year I noted that the Davidson & Licht jewelry store would be relocating from their Broadway Plaza location to downtown Walnut Creek on N. Main St. where they had their Watch Shoppe and it is now open, albeit with exterior finishes taking place.

Back last September I noted that The Candy Counter would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek and they are now open on N. Main St. across from CREAM. As you can see from the photo below, the baskets on the floor are filled with various taffy flavors which reminds me of the candy stores in old town Sacramento. More taffy baskets line the wall. In addition to candy they offer gift baskets, cards and even handbags (made from candy wrappers). Downtown Lafayette and Danville have candy stores so it’s great to see one open in downtown Walnut Creek to satisfy your sweet tooth.

A fast turn-around as Banana Republic reopens across the street in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. Back in January I showed a rendering of the outside and it matches perfectly. This is the first store in Broadway Plaza to be remodeled according to the new redevelopment plans and it looks amazing. With high ceilings, large, light-filled windows and a spacious, updated interior it’s no wonder Broadway Plaza decided to do a complete remodel for the 21st Century. Way more comfortable and pleasant to shop. Has anyone had a chance to stop by yet? What do you think?
Last month I made a Friday Question of the Day post asking whether you supported a ban on plastic bags in Walnut Creek (pretty evenly split) due to an impending vote in the Walnut Creek City Council and they have now voted for “banning single-use carryout plastic bags at all restaurants and retail stores, including supermarkets and pharmacies.” according to the Contra Costa Times. The ban will take effect this fall, September for retail stores and December for restaurants and there will be some exemptions such as bags for, “meat, produce, dry-cleaned clothes, prepared foods and prescription medications”.
As someone who has relied on Walnut Creek Target plastic bags to use for trash bags at home I guess I’ll just have to buy plastic bags in bulk at where else, Target, and remember to always bring my own bags for shopping as well. Just remember when grocery shopping to use cloth bags and wash them in a washing machine to remove germs as recycled bags can harbor some dangerous germs.
A new personalized grocery delivery service started by local Walnut Creek woman Brooke Dodson is open for delivery orders beginning today for anywhere in Walnut Creek, Lamorinda, Danville and a few other locations. For details on how it works click here and for their pricing page click here.
From their website:
Go-Getters was founded by Brooke Dodson, a girl who loves grocery shopping. As a kid, she loved trips to the store with Mom, eventually taking over the household shopping in high school. While studying Economics at UCLA, she worked as a personal assistant to a Beverly Hills family, and that’s when her idea for a personalized grocery delivery service first began to take shape. Since then, Brooke has worked in marketing in several different industries and received her MBA in Marketing and Strategy from UC Davis in 2013. Throughout her career and her education, she continued to assist friends, family, and colleagues with their grocery purchases. In 2014, Brooke decided it was time she took this passion, along with her education, creative energy, and entrepreneurial spirit to create Go-Getters. Based on the concept of putting the “person” back into personal shopping, Go-Getters offers busy parents, professionals, seniors, and small businesses personalized delivery of groceries and more. Go-Getters currently serves the East San Francisco Bay Area, with hopes for future expansion.

Spotted in downtown Walnut Creek across from Macy’s, the warning says, “DANGER, STAY OUT – STAY ALIVE” which always reminds me of the warning messages at Yosemite at the top of the waterfalls that state, “if you go over the fall, you will die”. Presumably the warning here is not referring to the little man-made waterfall at right, but rather the steep drop at left.
