8:30am | $35/$40Invite your family, friends & neighbors to join us for Concord’s Inaugural Veteran’s Day 10K/5K Run/Walk presented by Contra Costa Blue Star Moms Chapter 20. This Veteran’s Day race was created to raise awareness and show support for our many local veterans and raise money to provide support for active duty service personnel, promote patriotism, assist Veterans organizations and assist in homeland volunteer efforts to help our country remain strong.
This 6.2 mile (10K) and 3.1 mile (5K) Run/Walk is an out and back course route that starts in Hillcrest Park, heads out onto the Iron Horse Trail and then loops back into Hillcrest Park by the Korean War Memorial, ending in the park. There will be 2 aid stations on the 10K course (1 on the 5K course) with water and electrolyte drinks.

Last week we learned that Berkeley-based olive oil and balsamic vinegar company Amphora would be soft-opening over the weekend in downtown Lafayette and I had a chance to drop by and try out their extra virgin olive oils (infused and non-infused) and balsamic vinegar. As you can see in the photos below it feels spacious inside and there is a huge selection of oils.
Everything I tasted was incredible! My favorite non-infused extra virgin olive oil was the Australian Hojiblanca and among the infused oils I enjoyed Persian lime olive oil and the savory wild mushroom and sage olive oil. At a reasonable $7/$12/$18 for small/medium/large bottles I’ll definitely be back for more.

Dear BtCreek-
I was surprised to see the Lawrence Way recycling center had closed September 28th. A huge disappointment to those of use who want to recycle in a timely and efficient manner. Do your readers have any recommendations?
The bottom of this Contra Costa article has available recycling options. Anyone know of any other recycling centers in or near Walnut Creek?

The cowboy store Golden Gate Western Wear is closing their Pleasant Hill store at the end of November or beginning of December. The sign advertises up to 70% off so stop by if you’re looking for a pair of cowboy boots or hat. If you can’t make it there in time, their Richmond store on San Pablo Ave. is still open.
From their Facebook page:
Visit our stores in the SF East Bay, California. Everything from head to toe for men, women and children. 5000 boots, 3000 hats, 1000 belts, and 500 buckles. “It’s like a museum.” We carry cowboy hats, boots, belts, buckles, shirts, jeans, jewelry, and accessories for men, women and children.
Our custom hat maker, Bill Knudsen of Knudsen hats, was voted “Best Living Western Hatmaker,” FOUR years in a row by the readers of True West magazine for his hand-formed custom hats. Each custom cowboy hat is hand formed by Bill Knudsen in our Pleasant Hill location. He replicates just about any western hat you can think of including those worn by John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, the Tombstone movie characters, and the Hell on Wheels cast.

Thanks to a reader for an update about the Peruvian restaurant that is planning to open in the Contra Costa Transit Center near the Pleasant Hill BART station this spring. Last year we learned it was going to be called Mochica, and now it will be known as Parada Kitchen. Check out their Facebook page here.
