Almost 10 years ago, we were all set to trade in our Big Macs for big fancy condos in downtown Walnut Creek where McDonald’s used to be. Alas, it turned out that luxury apartments are now leasing at the apartment complex call The Rise. Check out the floorplans and pricing here and learn about the amenities here.

Lafayette Clocktower
It’s sad news that after six years in business, Bel & Bunna’s Books has closed at Lafayette Clocktower. According to a Facebook post, they were, “two months behind in rent and have been served with a pay or quit notice from the landlords”. In addition to facing competition from Amazon, the COVID-19 pandemic likely made things even more challenging for the store. Despite this, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to shop there with my children over the years.

When I dropped by over the weekend, some merchandise was on sale for 25% off, and there was a distinctive Walnut Creek pin to celebrate the opening. I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable the wool runner shoes felt!

The Library Social Club, under the same ownership as The Hideout Kitchen in Lafayette, opened recently in downtown Walnut Creek where Guava Island Eats used to be.
From their website:
Set in Walnut Creek’s busy downtown, The Library provides a unique experience unlike any other wine club with its repurposed vintage decor, value conscious price points and a sincere experience.
The Library offers a blend of esoteric and classic wines, local brews and small bites, and is open to the public but offers exclusive membership packages with many perks.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that the outdoor furniture store Yardbird is coming to downtown Walnut Creek where Sprint used to be. Check out their online selection here.
I assumed this was going to be a restaurant but I confused it with the restaurant Yard House at the Veranda in Concord.
