8:00pm | $25It’s an election year. Make way for Durst.
Satirist, comedian, and the smartest man in comedy, Will Durst returns to his favorite Bay Area venue for one night only to land some punches right before Election Day.
Willows Shopping Center, Concord
The wait is almost over as the Sacramento-based restaurant Dos Coyotes Border Cafe is set to open later this week in the Willows Shopping Center in Concord. They offer a variety of southwestern cuisine and also do catering. Check out their menu here and find out more about the backstory to the restaurant here. I was able to get a preview so check out photos of the inside (after the jump) to see what it’s like. As you can see in the photo below they offer plenty of seating as well as an outdoor dining area.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Back in February we learned that the island-lifestyle clothing store Tommy Bahama would possibly be relocating a few blocks away to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and they have now opened next to Victoria Secret’s PINK and White House Black Market. Check out their website here.
Lesher Center for the Arts
1601 Civic Dr, Walnut Creek
Friday, September 2nd – Thursday, October 8th, 2016This hilarious and heartwarming musical is a culture clash for the ages when two families from wildly different backgrounds come together to celebrate a wedding.
Then the bride’s ex-boyfriend arrives, bringing the wedding to a screeching halt and throwing both families into hysterical chaos. Plots are hatched, promises broken, secrets exposed – it’s enough to make the most experienced wedding planner throw up his hands and say “holy matrimony!”
Oak Grove Plaza, Concord
Thanks to everyone who sent word about 54 Mint Ristorante closing their Oak Grove Plaza Concord location recently. (The are still open in downtown Walnut Creek). Mona’s Burgers & Shakes, which opened in the Palos Verdes Mall back in 2014 in Walnut Creek will be opening their second location here sometime in late September. Check out their menu here.

A reader asks:
I recently moved into the new Agora apartment complex across from Kaiser in Walnut Creek. Tonight was my first night spent sleeping here after moving in, and while everything seemed great, I was woken up at 2am by a large noise. Looking out my window, I saw it was a man with a leaf blower in the Ross shopping center with a truck for cleaning up the parking lot. While I’ve seen those trucks before and they don’t make much noise, the leaf blower woke me up fast and was loud, even through my thick windows.
I researched further and the city forbids any kind of leaf blower or similar device, residential or commercial, from 8a to 7p (9a to 7p weekends). I’d like to know how to get in touch with the management company and/or owners of this shopping center, or who to contact with a noise complaint, but I’m not sure how to go about this process.
Any ideas? Definitely can’t sleep if this happens every night. I just want them to stop with the leaf blower, simple as that, as I’m sure someone is unaware of the ordinance (and/or that people are sleeping across the creek).
PS. It happened again tonight at 1am. The truck is almost as loud as the lead blower. They both seem prohibited according to the city code.
I’ve found what I believe to be the part of the city that is supposed to handle this, but I obviously would prefer to deal with the slow workings of government after just trying to tell the management company to tell the cleaners they can’t do what they’re doing.
Sunvalley Shopping Center, Concord
Earlier this year we learned that the entertainment center Round 1 Bowling & Amusement would be opening in the Sunvalley Shopping Center in Concord and they have now opened. (Thanks to a reader for pointing this out). In addition to arcade, bowling and karaoke rooms, they also offer billiards, a couple of ping pong tables, darts, a food and drink section and more, including purikura machines. It’s huge! I noticed quite a few Japanese imported arcade games. The amount of games on the floor is overwhelming. I kept looking around finding something I wanted to try. Anyone check this place out? What are your favorite games?

Glad the cops caught him.

Previously we learned about a homicide in downtown Walnut Creek early Saturday morning. The Walnut Creek police have posted an update below.
From the Walnut Creek PD:
Early this morning at 1:28 AM our officers heard sounds of gunfire coming from Locust Street. Our Communications Center also began to receive calls of shots fired on Locust Street at Cypress Street.
Our Officers immediately responded to the location and found Courtney Brown suffering from three gunshot wounds to his back. Officers had him immediately transferred by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. Sadly, Mr. Brown leaves behind a daughter and fiancé. Courtney Brown was 38 years old and was a resident of the Bay Area. It appears he was a patron at Crogan’s Sports Bar and Grill prior to the shooting.
At the time of the shooting both Redux Lounge and Crogan’s Sports Bar and Grill were closing and patrons were coming out of the night clubs.
Witnesses reported seeing the shooting and said the responsible was an African American male in his twenties, approximately 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. The responsible was last seen running west on Cypress towards California Boulevard and then South on California Boulevard. Officers and K9’s searched the area but were unable to locate the responsible.
Walnut Creek Police Detectives are following up on multiple leads and this is an extremely active investigation. All information thus far indicates this was not a random event.
We are hoping more persons will come forward with information regarding the shooting death of Mr. Brown. If you have information about this case please contact Walnut Creek Police Detective Leonard at 925.256.3523 or the Walnut Creek Police Departments Anonymous Tip line at 925.943.5865.
