Last year we learned that a new apartment complex call Lyric Walnut Creek would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek the past summer but the new signage indicates a Spring 2017 opening.

Celebrated San Francisco Women’s Building muralist and educator Edythe Boone is the subject of the award-winning documentary A New Color, a film by Mo Morris. Edythe Boone paints walls to build bridges toward unity when the chokehold death of her nephew and his final words ignite a national outcry for racial justice.
A New Color was the Audience Favorite Special Mention at Mill Valley Film Festival and won Best Documentary in Chicago.
3555 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Lafayette
I walked by the Chinese restaurant The Tasteful Noodle the other day in Lafayette and noticed a “Placard Pending” sign in the window from the county health division calling the restaurant “Poke Go”. That combined with the curtains in the window may point to a new poke restaurant coming to Lafayette? With Hawaiian-style poke restaurants popping up left and right around here I wouldn’t be surprised.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Go! Calendars – Games – Toys, which opened in September in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek will be closing within the next couple of weeks. Right now everything is 50% off. Note the difference between this sign and this “up to 50% off” sign for the Sports Authority store closing sale earlier this year.
I want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah as well (since it falls on the same day). Have fun!
When I got out of my car at the Target parking lot in Walnut Creek and saw flyers on the windshield of cars I thought surely this must be scofflaws advertising a nail salon or some service but interestingly, it was the Walnut Creek police themselves who posted “Don’t be Easy Prey” flyers warning not to leave handbags in cars that are visible to protect against break-ins. This is sound advice, I always make sure to put bags in the trunk out of view when leaving my car.
With Christmas and Hanukkah coming up very soon, I wonder what people’s favorite holidays are. My favorite holiday is Independence Day on July 4th. I love a fireworks show on a warm summer night. Thanksgiving is up there as well. What is your favorite holiday?
