Over the summer the Japanese restaurant Izakaya Jun closed in downtown Walnut Creek and now a new Japanese restaurant called Kurumi has opened in its place. They offer various sushi and sashimi dishes, yakitori, rice and noodle dishes including my favorite onigiri (grilled rice balls) with flavors like spicy cod roe, salmon, sour plum (umeboshi) and flaked tuna with mayo.

Just in time for Christmas Santa has arrived to Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek to provide cheer and photographs to all. I think this is the nicest Santa storefront I’ve seen so far in Broadway Plaza.

In April we learned that Capital One Cafe would be opening their first East Bay location in downtown Walnut Creek where the GAP used to be and progress is ongoing. For those not aware, Capital One Cafe is a casual style bank with a coffee shop, free wifi and meeting room spaces.
They will feature Peet’s coffee as well as local baked goods. What’s great is that for those with a Capital One card you can get 50% off Peet’s coffee. Free, semi-private working areas will be available on a first come, first serve basis and community spaces can be reserved by non-profits for free as well.
