Photos from 2017 Tax March in Downtown Walnut Creek

April 17, 2017 10:00 am

Although not as big as the Women’s March from earlier this year, there was plenty of honking and signs at the four corners of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek this past Saturday as people participating in the Tax March demanded President Trump release his tax returns. Check out more photos of the march after the jump.

Tax March on April 15th in Downtown Walnut Creek

April 14, 2017 2:00 pm

Walnut Creek Tax March:

Corner of Main St. & Mt. Diablo Blvd, Walnut Creek
Saturday, April 15th, 2017
11:00am | Free

The Tax March is a movement gaining momentum around the country to demand transparency and fairness from our Commander-in-Chief. Throughout his campaign, Donald Trump told the American people he would release his tax returns. Despite intense public pressure, President Trump has not yet done so – breaking with 40 years of precedent in the process. His administration’s excuse? “People don’t care.”

We do care. Without seeing his tax returns, we have no idea what he’s hiding – shady business deals? Financial ties to foreign countries? Conflicts of interest? – or who his policies are really benefitting.

On April 15, we’re marching on Washington and in communities across the country to send a clear message to Donald Trump: You work for us, and we demand answers.

Friday Question of the Day – What would You do if you were to Asked to Leave an Airplane?

April 14, 2017 8:30 am

Earlier this week a 69 year old Vietnamese immigrant refused to give up his seat on a United flight while getting ready to take off with his wife back to his home in Louisville. I’ve been reading the news about this and was amazed to learn that it’s within the airline’s rights to kick off passengers to accommodate airline employees (which is different from overbooking). It’s one thing if this happened pre-boarding, but to do it while seated on the plane, especially with other family members on-board is beyond the pale.

If this happened to me I would be beyond pissed off. But would I do what the passenger, Dr. David Dao did and stand my ground? I doubt so. What would you do? I think this passenger could be considered a hero who may single handedly change how airlines treat seated passengers getting ready for take-off. This reminds me of the mad as hell scene from the movie Network (1976):

End of the Rainbow Playing at Lesher Center through April 23rd in Walnut Creek

April 13, 2017 4:30 pm

End of the Rainbow:

Lesher Center for the Arts
1601 Civic Dr, Walnut Creek
Friday, March 31st – Sunday, April 23rd, 2017

End of the Rainbow is the Tony Award nominated musical drama of Judy Garland’s comeback concerts during Christmas, 1968. With a six-week booking at London’s Talk of the Town, it looks like Judy is set firmly on the comeback trail. The failed marriages, the suicide attempts and the addictions are all behind her. At forty-six and with new flame Mickey Deans at her side, she seems determined to carry it off and recapture her magic. But lasting happiness always eludes some people, and there was never any answer to the question with which Judy ended every show: “If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, why, oh, why, can’t I?” End of the Rainbow is a savagely funny drama featuring a glorious ensemble of Judy Garland hits and infused with the glamour and the melancholy of stardom.

Running Time: approx. 2 hours, with one intermission

The cafe restaurant home/made kitchen opened a few years ago in Moraga but recently rumors have been spreading about how they are planning to close. I checked and although there were issues several months ago they have been resolved and they plan on staying open for breakfast, lunch and special event dinners. Check out their website here and Facebook page here.
