A new 56 unit luxury condominium complex called The Woodbury has broken ground in Lafayette behind the Veteran’s building on Risa Rd. and the initial units are expected to be completed in early 2015.

Branagh Development
From the developer’s website:
The Woodbury is a 56-unit luxury condominium complex expected to break ground summer 2014 in Lafayette. This seven building project will be complete with views of Mt. Diablo, the Lafayette hills, vegetable garden, fire pit and a new EBMUD park and sculpture garden. The open floor plan units are designed to feel like a single family residence but with the convenience and security of a luxury flat.
Six of the seven buildings are considered Garden Flats nd will house six units each. These buildings will hold the largest floor plans ranging from +/- 1,400 square feet to over +/- 2,900 square feet of living space. Units will include spacious balconies & patios, private garages, elevator access and only one common wall.
Housing 20 units, the Terraced House is the largest building in The Woodbury with floor plans ranging from +/- 1,100 square feet to +/- 1,700 square feet. Units will include balconies & patios, a secure parking garage, elevator access, gym facility and a community lounge.
The Woodbury’s extensive use of luxury finishes, large floor plans and proximity to Lafayette, Walnut Creek and everything the San Francisco Bay Area has to offer makes it the premier choice for those looking for ahigher standard of conominium living in the East Bay. The first phase delivery of units is expected in early 2015.

15 Fiesta Ln, Lafayette
Back in April I posted some scuttlebutt about an upscale men’s salon called 18/8 coming to Fiesta Ln. in downtown Lafayette near The Cooperage. Based on the signs in the windows I’m happy to see this has now been confirmed.

From the Lafayette City Manager:
Earlier today, Acalanes High School went on total lockdown after a student texted a threatening message. After an all-out response from the Lafayette Police Department and Acalanes faculty and administration, the student was arrested, taken into custody, and it is likely that s/he will be prosecuted for the action. There are lots of things wrong about this, but among the most regretful is that the high school seniors were scheduled to have their senior picnic at 10:30A, and this stupid act disrupted their celebration. Anyway, everybody’s breathing easier now, and the police and school personnel can chalk it up as a very realistic drill. All involved commented that the twice-annual active-shooter drills paid off big time. Whew.

This week’s kitchen of the day, located in south Lafayette is also from this year’s Lafayette Juniors Kitchen tour held last month. More photos from the tour are available here. The huge island featuring honed white and gray Calacutta De Oro marble countertops was one of the highlights for me, as was a unique cutting board, pictured in one of the photos below.
From the Lafayette Juniors description:
The ranch home houses a cook’s kitchen. The kitchen has beautifully honed Calcutta marble countertops with dual dishwashers and sinks. The kitchen is all white yet very vibrant. It has touches of modern elements with pops of orange in the décor. The kitchen offers grace and elegance in an immensely functional design which includes a built-in icemaker and wine
refrigerator.

Last week I featured one of the kitchens from the 15th annual Lafayette Juniors Kitchen tour and here is one more “kitchen of the day”. You can see more photos from the tour on the Lafayette Juniors Facebook page here.
This house was originally a horse ranch and the farmhouse setting was preserved for the remodel. From the tour description:
The farmhouse home is a sight to be seen. The refurbished vintage oven and stovetop lend a unique charm to the house. The kitchen prides an untraditional remodel of tiled counter tops and an alder wood island. Checker style kitchen floors add charm, balance and warmth to the house. The homeowners love to reuse materials and products: There is even a small old bathtub that is used as a flowerbed in the serene backyard.
The scene pictured below in the open area next to the kitchen is one of my favorites. Perfectly in keeping with the farmhouse style!
