Walnut Creek Turns 100 Opening Reception:
Bedford Gallery
1601 Civic Dr, Walnut Creek
Sunday, September 21st, 2014
3:00pm – 5:00pm | FreePresented in honor of the city’s centennial, Walnut Creek Turns 100 is an exhibition that reflects the city’s rich history, land, commerce, community, and culture, both past and present, and features artwork made by community members.
The Bedford put out a call for artists during the past spring and summer, inviting all those who live and work in Walnut Creek, and those who love the city, to submit their artwork. The resulting show contains work by over 100 local artists working in a diverse reach of media including painting, textiles, collage, photography, and sculpture. Walnut Creek Turns 100 creates an engaging portrait of the city, as envisioned by the community.
“This show reminds us how lucky we are to live in a place where beauty is everywhere and it highlights the enthusiasm of our community members who contribute to the texture of our town. Join us as we celebrate our heritage and history.”
1411 Locust St, Walnut Creek
The LA style street food restaurant 310 Eatery that opened in downtown Walnut Creek this April has relocated around the corner to the Redux Lounge on Locust St and will be open beginning next Tuesday, September 23rd. As you can see from the inside photo below, you’ll be able to eat at tables for lunch, dinner or a late night snack. The only difference is that there will be a full bar that offers beer, wine and other drinks. Check their Facebook page here.
Old location (closed):
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
It’s tough being a small retailer in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. Take the fashion accessories boutique Bracchiale for example. They have moved two times within the past year in Broadway Plaza and according to an Eventbrite party, GAP owned Athleta will be opening next to Starbucks in Broadway Plaza on October 20th, which means that Bracchiale will need to look once again for a new location either in downtown Walnut Creek or elsewhere in the bay area.

Back in February I asked about whether people supported the Walnut Creek plastic bag ban ordinance (with slightly more support for the ban) and today is the first day this ordinance will be enforced. Read more about the reasoning behind the ban and the rules at the City of Walnut Creek website here.
Are you ready to bring your usable bags to Target and elsewhere in Walnut Creek?
