Anyone know what’s going on with the temporary orange fences at 680S between Walnut Creek and Danville?

The fences go from Danville to Walnut Creek and in some places are pretty elaborate-like at the Alamo onramp to I-680 South. I can’t figure out why they need these things.

UPDATE According to the owner The Jungle is not closing. They “got short lease extension and working on long term lease“.
The indoor children’s play center The Jungle, with massive amounts of jungle gym structures throughout is closing sometime early next year in Willows Shopping Center in Concord, possibly this spring according to an employee I spoke with. Taking its place will be a giant Total Wine shop based on its 15,000 sf footprint. Stay tuned…

You can’t walk more than a few blocks in downtown Walnut Creek without strolling past a wine bar or beer cafe but in 1947 there was the Kitty Milk Bar, (located where Hubcaps is).
According to the Walnut Creek Historical Society:
The white building behind the Bar is the first Walnut Creek fire station. The bar was named for Katherine, sister of the owner. It opened in 1947 and was the Copper Skillet before being Hubcaps.
Life sure was different in the 1940s in Walnut Creek. Seems so innocent. More on milk bars here.

As I drive around this holiday season it’s fun to see the different Christmas and holiday decorations on display around town. I always make a special side trip to see the really special ones. Do you put up decorations during Christmas time in December?

He raced at Indianapolis 12 times, winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1985 in spectacular fashion with what became known as the “spin and win.” In 1988 Sullivan won the Michigan 500 and went on to win the CART Indycar series title for Roger Penske.
Danny worked on ABC/ESPN as a color commentator, raced at 24 Hours of Le Mans and had a video game released by Nintendo, Danny Sullivan’s Indy Heat, before he finally retired from racing in 1995. Sullivan was inducted into the Motorsports Walk of Fame in 2011.

Willows Shopping Center, Concord
It’s that time again of See’s Candies popup stores sprouting all over the Bay Area. In the photo above you can see one See’s Candies popup in Willows Shopping Center in Concord but I’ve seen them almost anywhere I go these days. Is it my imagination or are there more of them this year? I love the butterscotch lollipops! What is your favorite?

Earlier this week we learned about a petition to save open space in Pleasant Hill; there is another protest taking place against development plans for 53 homes on 5 acres in the former Jewish Community Center location in Tice Valley, Walnut Creek. More information from ABC 7 News here. Check out the change.org petition here. There will be a city council meeting next Tuesday, December 15th in which this issue will probably be decided. Do you think 53 houses on 5 acres in a suburban neighborhood is too much?

The environmental impact report is highly flawed. It is based on many false assumptions and does not present a full, factual accounting of the impact of this project. This is a belief of the vast majority of those that have read it and live in our community. The primary talking point for Pulte and those that support this project is that they have compromised and listened to the community. This is a falsehood. It is not compromise but rather strategy that they have offered. They went in presented an proposal for an obscene number of homes on the property and came down to an absurd one. I am not sure how anyone actually thought that 71 homes would fit on 5 acres and to reduce to 53 is just an insult. All our community is looking for is responsible development. If the property NEEDS to be re-zoned from open space recreation then look at a true transitional development of 4-5 homes per acre, not 10.

A new cryotherapy center called Renew Cryotherapy is opening in downtown Walnut Creek next to Wax Parlor on Cypress St. Check out this Mercury News article about these new cryotherapy centers opening up in the Bay Area or this Wikipedia entry for info and decide for yourself whether this is a fad or something here to stay. Has anyone ever tried this out? What is it like?

7:00 PM – 8:30 PM | FreeJoin professional musician and scholar Dulais Rhys for a look at Edwardian era art, culture and history as it relates to the hit television series Downton Abbey. Presentation will include slideshow and audio examples of the era’s arts, social developments, historical events and retrospective perceptions. Rhys will also discuss the popular music of the period along with television period drama theme tunes. Tea and cookies will be served. The sixth and final season of Downton Abbey returns to PBS on January 3. The show is PBS’ highest rated drama in 40 years.
