The Broadway Plaza Concierge in downtown Walnut Creek is located right next to Macy’s. According to the sign they offer gift cards, restrooms, wifi, a lounge area, and a nursing lounge. It’s also the place to go to rent children’s shopping cars. When I’ve been it’s always very clean and comfortable. Much more spacious than the old concierge from a few years ago. Many times they play children’s movies on the big screen tv to entertain the little ones. Anyone else enjoy this place?
Broadway Plaza is a great place to shop, with plenty of artwork and places to sit while sipping on a drink from one of the several cafes nearby. So when a reader recently pointed out that the circular bench that used to be next to Nordstrom was missing, I couldn’t believe it. Why would they do such a thing? If anyone from Broadway Plaza or elsewhere knows what happened please let us know. We miss it.
Thanks to a reader for writing in about a flash mob by a group of 5th graders at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek yesterday.
Yesterday the shopping at Broadway Plaza was disrupted by some 5th grade girls performing a flash mob!!! They organized themselves, had a couple of practices and executed at 1pm yesterday to the delight and amazement of holiday shoppers. Traffic on the street was stalled as those driving slowed/stopped to watch. The music was from a car on the street in front of the tree.
Did anybody else see this?
A previous Sculpture of the Day post featured the “Concrete Totem” right next to this, and according to a Smithsonian description of the sculptures, there are three of them, “One depicts an owl; another a fox; the third, a variety of animals”.
So which one is this?
Titled “Concrete Totem”, this sculpture is located next to Yogurt Park in Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek.
No, not the North Pole, this one is in a parking lot at Broadway Plaza of all places. Every year it gets converted into an elaborate photo booth. Here are the details:
The Contra Costa Times reports today about Broadway Plaza expansion plans:
Macerich may seek to build 200 residential units at its site. The plan may also call for the demolition of an existing 200,000 square feet of retail space, then rebuild that along with an additional 200,000 or 300,000 square feet of retail space, according to an meeting agenda report.
Macerich also seeks close off most of Broadway Plaza street to create a promenade and plaza.
I think blocking off the street through Broadway Plaza would be a smart move on their part. Hardly any auto traffic moves through there currently, and the extra space available to make it nicer for shoppers and pedestrians would improve foot traffic and time spent at nearby stores. Adding some restaurants wouldn’t be so bad either. As much as I like Nordstrom Cafe, Boudin Bakery and P.F. Chang’s, a little more diversity wouldn’t hurt.
