In May I noted that Harvest Market closed on Bonanza St. and now a new, ‘event-driven, social’ cafe focusing on South American coastal cuisine, Cafecitos Cafe & Food Pavilion, will be opening sometime in August at this location. Check out their website here. This sounds like a very interesting concept, I look forward to checking it out when it opens.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that The Melt food truck is going to be in downtown Lafayette every Saturday from 3pm to 10pm at the Roundup Saloon parking lot. Check out the menu here. Gluten-free option are available.
Last Saturday, I was driving on 24 right behind The Melt food truck into Lafayette and was wondering why they stopped at the Saloon parking lot. I’m glad they’ll be there every Saturday as I always wanted to try one of their grilled cheese sandwiches.

The Barbacoa outdoor lounge area at Orinda Theatre Square looks great. In addition to the fire pit there are tables shaded by huge umbrellas to the right.

A new Chinese restaurant called Iron Kitchen will soon open at 581 Moraga Rd. in Moraga where Basil Asian Restaurant used to be. Moraga has two well known Chinese restaurants, Chef Chao and Asia Palace so I wonder how this will stack up to them.

Last month I posted about Vitality Bowls opening at the end of July in downtown Walnut Creek and as you can from the sign they will be opening July 19th and there will be free toppings and special giveaways throughout the weekend. I can’t wait as these acai bowls are perfect for a hot summer day!

Earlier this month I noted that the Italian restaurant Picolo Napoli would be opening in Orinda Theatre Square and this weekend I dropped in to try out their pizza, salads and gelato and it was really good. Check out their menu here. Diablo Dish also has more information here. In addition to their online menu they also offer appetizers such as a caprese mozzarella salad, house salad and housemade bread sticks with roasted garlic and Parmesan.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you may know that I’m a huge pizza fan so how does it stack up? To me this reminds me of a traditional New York pizza, albeit a bit thinner. Mostly local ingredients are used including San Marzano and grape tomatoes and a six-cheese mix.
As for the gelato, mmmm. Very creamy and rich. The salted caramel flavor is insanely good.

Piccolo Napoli is located at 2 Theatre Square across from Republic of Cake in downtown Orinda.

Looks like the former Stereo Unlimited store on Locust St. in downtown Walnut Creek is getting a new cafe. According to my source it will be called Healing Foods Café which will offer customized food and diet programs for healthy eating as well as medical issues by using specific food types. Stay tuned…

Just noticed that Lottie’s Creamery has a new sidewalk sign display up in downtown Walnut Creek. I had a scoop of apricot crumble, amazing as always.
