Jersey Mike’s Subs opened a couple of weeks ago on Hartz Avenue in Danville. They have over 600 locations around the country and offer cold and hot subs, wraps and salads. Check out their menu here. Has anyone tried a sub here? What’s the best one?

The British pub The Crown is closing at the end of August in downtown Danville according to a sign outside the restaurant (see below). On August 25th they are having a sale of pub collectibles including this red English phone booth:

345 Railroad Ave, Danville
The other day I stopped by the pizza place Forge in Danville for a preview on Railroad Ave. They are located right next to, and accessible within Lunardi’s supermarket. The design turned out great as you can see by the photos:
Service begins this Thursday. Check out their menu here. My favorite pizza was the heirloom tomato pizza with roasted garlic pesto and smoked mozzarella. Yum!

Forge Danville (“forge” refers to a hearth used to bake items at very hot temperatures) is a welcoming, fun and family-friendly restaurant that will serve freshly-made lunches and dinners seven days a week using the imported, Italian Valoriani oven. Menu items will include: daily homemade soups, hearty salads with fresh local ingredients and wood-fired roasted specialties, all anchored by the signature wood-fired pizzas. The bar at Forge will feature 15 local artisanal beers including 10 beers on tap from the custom designed cast iron tap system. A select wine list featuring Californian and European varietals will be available in addition to house-made tonic, ginger beer and root beer on tap. Forge will be available for catering and private events both on and off site.

Better late than never, Pinkberry is finally have a pre-opening this evening from 5pm to 10pm in downtown Walnut Creek next to the Cheesecake Factory on Locust St. Free frozen yogurt (and frisbees, water bottles plus a DJ) during this time and there will be plenty of tables outside. Any Pinkberry fans out there?

Last month I noted that a new cafe focusing on South American cuisine will be opening in downtown Walnut Creek called Cafecitos Cafe and now the signage is up. The door is marked, “Discover South American Savories, Sandwiches, Salads and Sweets”. I can’t wait to see this place!

Thanks to a reader for pointing out that the ice cream shop CREAM in Walnut Creek is now open. The grand opening is still this Saturday, but judging by the crowds that already have found out about the new opening I have a feeling it’s going to be PACKED on Saturday as they hand out free ice cream sandwiches! So get there early if you can.
Inside there is a big menu explaining how to order:

They also offer vegan and gluten free cookies, as well as sundaes, milkshakes and ‘cream tacos’, not to mention plain scoops, brownies and more. The cookies are warm and soft and ice cream is not super-hard so it’s easy for employees to smoosh it together to make the sandwiches. Has anyone been here yet? What’s your favorite combination?
The Squirrel’s Coffee Shop will be closing on August 15th in downtown Lafayette. Located on Moraga Rd. in front of the Lafayette Park Plaza, it has been in business for close to 30 years according to a quote by the owner in the Lamorinda Weekly, which reported the closing. The neighboring stores (cleaners, thrift store, and temporary art gallery) are all gone as well so it looks like that section will get a facelift soon, followed by a higher-end restaurant and other stores. 3545 Mt Diablo, Lafayette
Last month I posted about San Francisco-based Smitten Ice Cream possibly coming to downtown Lafayette and it looks like this is going to really happen. A source I spoke with recently told me that Cold Stone Creamery will close some time in August with Smitten possibly opening in November. The transition should be made easier since they are both ice cream shops.
Last week I noted that the ice cream sandwich store CREAM would be opening on August 10th in downtown Walnut Creek and the signage is now up!
