50 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette
The popular Walnut Creek-based coffee shop Coffee Shop that we learned would be coming to the heart of downtown Lafayette in October to replace The Art Room is opening tomorrow, Tuesday, July 19th. They have been open for several hours the past few days getting ready for the grand opening and people have been emailing about the impending opening.
I was able to drop by over the weekend to get photos and it looks amazing with a vaulted ceiling and retro lighting accenting wooden beams throughout. There is plenty of outdoor seating as you can see in the above photo. Featuring roasters such as Cafe Grumpy (Brooklyn), Stumptown (Portland) and Sightglass (San Francisco), along with craft beers, wine and seasonal organic dishes including salads, sandwiches, flatbreads and breakfast items, this place is going to be huge in Lafayette. According to a sign they plan on having open mic nights with comedians, songwriters, poets on Tuesday evenings, game nights for board games on Wednesdays, and art nights featuring local artists on Thursday evenings. Coffee Shop will be open Sundays through Thursdays 6am – 9pm and Fridays and Saturdays 6am – 9:30pm.

1930 Salvio St, Concord
The Japanese restaurant I Love Ramen & Noodles closed in downtown Concord yesterday. Stay tuned for Von’s Chicken to open up in its place. Assuming this is the same owners as the Sunnyvale location, check out their menu here.

Thanks to a reader for send word and photo that Miglet’s Gluten-Free Cupcake Shop has closed in Danville. According to their Facebook page they closed at the end of April. Read their farewell letter here.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Cocola Bakery, located right next to Macy’s and the soon to open True Food Kitchen at Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek will be opening soon offering baked goods, pastries, as well as sandwiches, soups, salads and more. Check out their menu here. Good to finally see more dining options in this area.
From their website:
Cocola is a one of a kind high-end patisserie established in 2002 by Sue and Amir Aliabadi, a mother and son partnership, with the first locations in Santana Row and Westfield Valley Fair.
The specialties of our cafés are pastries and French confections, that we like to think of as “affordable luxuries”. We also serve gourmet sandwiches on baguettes fresh from the oven, with salads and homemade soups.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
When we learned last month that the skincare shop Oceane Beauty would be opening a kiosk in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek there was some concern whether they were replacing Wetzel’s Pretzels, which also was opening a kiosk. We now know that Wetzel’s will still be opening a kiosk near Macy’s across from Victoria’s Secret. Check out Wetzel’s menu here.

2905 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
Thanks to a reader for pointing out that Chicago-based frozen yogurt shop Forever Yogurt is coming to the corner of N. Main St. and Geary Rd. in Walnut Creek. In addition to a frozen yogurt menu which can be viewed here, according to a poster in the window they also plan on offering boba teas, Asian wraps, and steamed buns. Stay tuned…

1539 Locust St, Walnut Creek
We learned way back in February that Piedmont-based Mr. Green Bubble would be coming to downtown Walnut Creek in between Orangetheory Fitness and Buon Vino, where Second to None Consignment store used to be and now the Coming Soon signage is up. Has anyone tried one of their other locations? What is your favorite flavor?

Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center
A couple of weeks ago we learned about a new organic fast food joint called The Organic Coup, featuring organic chicken dishes, would be opening in the Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center and they have now opened. Check out their menu after the jump. They also offer bags of organic kettle popcorn at a reasonable $2. A big sign in front of the cash register notes, “No Cash, No Tips”.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
It’s been a long two year wait but Boudin Bakery & Cafe is finally back in a new spot next to Nordstrom in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and the new spot where they are located is SO much better than their former spot next to Macy’s. While the former spot felt claustrophobic due to lack of space and lighting, this new spot sees the light of day, literally, with giant windows allowing plenty of natural sunlight in. The larger space has plenty more seating as well as outdoor tables as well as a long section along the wall to line up.
I tried the classic BBQ pork sandwich with coleslaw and it was great. They also offer burgers which I don’t believe they offered in their old location. I also saw a beer and wine sign on the wall which will go great with their sourdough offerings. In addition to dishes they also offer sliced bread (sourdough, cinnamon raisin and multigrain).
